Green Apple Festival and Earth Day Network announce nationwide concerts

Green Apple Festival and Earth Day Network today released the 2009 line up for the free “Green Apple Thank You Concerts," celebratory performances at leading venues for volunteers participating in their coordinated, simultaneous volunteer actions held in major cities across the country over Earth Day Weekend.

On Sunday, April 19th an upbeat and eclectic line-up of musicians will perform "with friends” at music venues in each city. Meanwhile, the national flagship event, "Earth Day on the National Mall" - with talent to be announced soon - will be held festival style at the National Mall in Washington, DC. Presenting sponsors include Disneynature, Timberland, Motorola, Inc. and Clear2GO as well as associate sponsor FedEx and media partners Planet Green and USAToday.

This year’s Green Apple Festival has grown to ten cities and will focus on environmental volunteerism. Volunteers who participate in the activities over the weekend, will be given tickets to attend the free “Thank You” concerts.

Volunteers can sign up online now for actions in ten cities, to occur April 17 - 19 2009. Projects in parks, beaches, schools and forests will focus on climate change solutions like tree planting, energy efficiency retrofits, water protection, urban gardens and forest restoration. Produced with environmental organizations, city parks and recreation departments across the US, the activities will be suitable for all ages, including children and families. These activities encourage active lifestyles while connecting volunteers with green products and solutions. Free "Thank You Concerts" will be:

Atlanta, GA - Galactic & Friends with opener Victoria George at Variety Playhouse
Galactic is a leading funk and jazz instrumental band from New Orleans, Louisiana. George is a country/rock singer/songwriter.

Austin, TX - Travis Tritt & Friends at Antone's *(on Monday April 20)
Tritt is a Grammy Award-winning Country star who has charted more than 30 singles on the Hot Country Songs charts, including five #1's

Boston, MA - Soulive & Friends at Paradise Rock Club
The funk/jazz trio originated in Buffalo, New York, and is known for its solos and catchy, upbeat songs

Chicago, IL - Cracker & Friends at The Metro
Cracker is an Alt-rock favorite founded by former Camper Van Beethoven member David Lowery with Johnny Hickman

Denver, CO - Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk & Friends at Cervante's Masterpiece

Growing to ten cities from last year's eight across the country, Green Apple Festival and Earth Day Network aim to involve even more civic and environmentally-minded Americans in a nationwide weekend for volunteers to participate in meaningful actions, give back to communities and restore and renew the Earth.

As previously announced, Earth Day Network and Green Apple Festival's 2009 plans include simultaneous events in ten US cities over Earth Day Weekend – April 17 through 19 – that will this year focus on environmental volunteerism. The service events will be coupled with Earth Day on the National Mall in Washington, DC and free “Thank You” concerts for volunteers in each city.
