End o' week musings

Rain is on its way again I understand, but hopefully it won't be the deluge we previously had....

Last Saturday I had planned to catch 2 Frets Lower at Strings in Glendora, but it was raining so hard that my mother talked me out of it. I hope some people made it out to the show. As for me, I'll have to catch them next time.

However, I did get down to Nick's Taste of Texas in Covina to see the House of Rock show. Mike Davis (Dramarama, Halford) showed up with a friend and his son and we nibble on various dishes and drank several pitchers of beer, which seemed kinda weird considering the the performers on stage were ages 9 and up.

Now this wasn't your little local talent show- these kids could play! They made up a clutch of bands that offered up all kinds of rock and with flourish. By the end of the night I was feeling like I should just lock my guitar in its case and leave it that way because my little noodling doesn't even come one hair close to what the kids could do. Maybe their instructor Daryl Hernandez will give me a much-needed lesson or two?!

Sunday I went to my friend Carin's house and did yet another sewing project. I also received all my instructions (including how to work the hot tub) so I could house sit for the next few days. It was a nice change of pace, spending time with her two kitties and having a really big place to myself.... almost like a mini-vacation!

Tuesday at work we had a Dr. Seuss Birthday Party. It was my idea to break the monotony with a 3 p.m. soiree with food based on Seuss and other literary themes. We enjoyed Horton Hatches the Egg Bugs on a Log, Monkey King Cookies, Lorax Tree Treats, Storytime Snacks and more. It was a nice change of pace and the goodies weren't bad either.

Wednesday I went to Maggie's Pub in Santa Fe Springs for the first Wednesday of the month buffet. You pay for your drinks and eat like a king for free. I like it because you get little tastes from various menu items, so you can discover new things to order next time you visit.

Maggie's have bands every Friday night and other entertainment throughout the week. It will have a big St. Patrick's Day celebration, but you need to reserve in advance. Visit http://www.maggiespub.com/.

Last night I went to the Gallery at the End of the World for the artists' reception. The work was varied and interesting as always and there were a few new artists too. I'm looking forward to tonight when I dance there with my drummer Ric Sarabia. If you're in need of a fun night out, come on down. Admission is$5 and includes refreshments, plus there will be a band. Here's info for the weekend"

OK, you've probably figured out where I'm spending the rest of my weekend too lol!

My week otherwise was interview-intriguing with a visit to dollmaker Kathy Yoshihara's studio, a chat with DT of Swirl and a call from Dallas Cowboys' offensive lineman Marc Colombo to discuss his band Free Reign (whose members also include Cowboys Leonard Davis and Cory Procter). Keep tuned to http://www.sgvn.com/ for my stories in the coming weeks.

In rotation this week: "Almost Alice," "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," Jimmy Wayne, Free Reign and Tom Petty.

Photos we got 'em: Some pet pics from the usual places, a peak at Joe Walla's new race car and a view of my friends' back yard (can you find what's wrong here? Hint: look at the firepit & no cats were harmed in the shooting of this photo).

Thought o' the week: Be thankful for the little things. Yeah, I probably offer up this idea way too often, but it comes into play in my life a lot.

Just this morning I found one of my favorite earrings that had disappeared in my carpet, which led to the discovery of another item that I thought was long gone. And when I got to work, my podmate had a breakfast sandwich for me. If that wasn't enough joy, there was hot coffee available at both office coffee stations! I'm on a roll!!

The point is you can wait for something big to happen to make you smile or you can relish a lot of little things, the kind of small gems that add sparkle to your life every day, and be even more happy. Maybe I'm just impatient, but I'll take the latter....

Keep on rockin'
Mickie

Love that "clowder" of cats--they look like a mouse's worst nightmare! And--what a treat to see Nocturra in action. Nothing like two or three swords to get attention and respect!

Those "West Sode Story" kitties made me laugh, so I just had to share! Thank you for your "sharp" praise! It was so nice to see you and Pat at GATOW.

hugs,
