Stereos, Canada’s latest and greatest export, is ready to take U.S. audiences by storm. Even before the release of its self-titled debut release on Universal Canada, the band’s first single for the party anthem “Summer Girl” was certified double platinum in digital downloads and debuted at No. 2 on the charts. The full-length release went gold in only three months and is now headed to platinum status. “Summer Girl” will hit radio stateside on June 7th.
An overnight success five years in the making, the band originally formed in Edmonton, Alberta circa 2005 as Stand By Me.
“We had everything written,” singer Pat K. says of the band’s genesis, “from our sound to how we wanted to look down before we even played our first show. We had 20 songs written before we even had members to play them. Unlike other bands, we were determined to compete and be better than the bands we saw on TV or heard on the radio. You can't think on a local level or that's all you'll ever be.”
The band moved to Toronto and rechristened itself Stereos. The quintet (singer Pat K., guitarists Miles and Robb, bassist Daniel and drummer Aaron) has never wavered in it goal to be the best band around.
“I feel just as hungry now as when we were starting; booking our own shows,” notes Pat. “We're set to attack the world and we are in it for the long-haul.”
Pulling from R&B, hip-hop, reggae, rock, metal and punk into its self-described “crunk-rock” sound, Stereos is easily one of the most engaging and diverse bands out right now.
“Almost all genres are influential to the music we make,” the charismatic lead singer points out. “We put all of these different genres together and filter them through a band.”
Teaming up with producer Gavin Brown (Three Days Grace, Billy Talent, Cancer Bats) for its debut, the band is now embarking on a U.S. tour which kicks off May 4th in Santa Ana, CA.
Crafting catchy, up-tempo that you won’t be able to get out of your head, Stereos has managed to attain success very quickly but they've earned it. More importantly, this is only the beginning for Stereos' assault on the world of pop.
“We spent years with absolutely no money, living in the worst possible conditions just so we could get this band off the ground,” Pat offers. “This is what we've always been doing and we're going to continue to do it no matter what anyone says. We love everyone, even the haters. They'll make you work 10 times harder than anybody patting your back will.”
