It's Bike Week Pasadena

Now in its fourth year, Bike Week Pasadena is a good time to explore. From May 20 through May 22, residents and visitors to Pasadena can experience the best that bicycling has to offer— a stimulating outdoor workout, a street-level view of urban living, and new friends.

“Bike Week will offer something for almost everyone: the bicycle novice, commuter, recreational rider and whole family,” said Fred Dock, director, city of Pasadena Department of Transportation.

Hosting the events are the city’s transportation department and Cyclists Inciting Change thru Live Exchange (C.I.C.L.E.), a nonprofit organization working to promote the bicycle as a viable, healthy and sustainable transportation choice.

In collaboration with National Bike to Work Day, Thursday, May 20, kicks off the festivities with a Bike to Work Day pit stop at Pasadena City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave. Participants will have a chance to meet other cycling commuters from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and enjoy refreshments.

At 5:30 p.m., Pasadena historians will talk about Pasadena’s rich bicycle heritage. Pasadena and the Bicycle: A Historical Romance at the Pasadena Museum of History, 470 West Walnut Street, will bring to light some of the mysteries of the Dobbins Cycleway and more.

On Friday, May 21, three events take place at One Colorado’s courtyard. The Pasadena Crosstown Bicycle Ride will gather at 6 p.m. to tour many of Pasadena’s districts.

The ride ends back at the courtyard for the 2nd Annual Pedal Party featuring live music, silent auction, refreshments and bike films. At 7:30 p.m. Pasadena Cyclery will host Intro to Biking, a workshop on the basic products and gear recommended for a bicycle lifestyle.

On Saturday, May 22, at 10 a.m., Family and Bikes Day at Pasadena’s Central Park, 275 S. Raymond Ave., will promote bicycling as a healthy transportation choice. The bike-centric afternoon will feature workshops, face painting, live music and exhibitors displaying family and children’s biking gear and products.
