Towne Singers concert Dec. 3 in Pasadena

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, the annual Christmas countdown is about to begin. What better way to get into the spirit of the season than to attend a holiday concert?

The Towne Singers will present their annual holiday concert, "Christmas in the City," at First United Methodist Church in Pasadena on Saturday, December 3 at 5 p.m. Few local venues can accommodate a 92-member choir as well as this one, and the grand architecture and exquisite stained glass of this sanctuary are an ideal setting for the music.

Music Director Beth Richey is very excited about the program for this concert. "I think the audience will be delighted with the music selections, from the energetic strains of Bach’s Magnificat in D to a fun variety of the more familiar holiday tunes. The choir has mastered some challenging arrangements."

Specific highlights include a medley of European carols from the sixteenth century, a newer version of Ave Maria with an echoing counterpoint of harmonies, the gospel spiritual Go Where I Send Thee, a fun twist on an old favorite, Jingle Bells, and a variety of other holiday songs.

The Towne Singers will also express their gratitude and support for the troops deployed in war-torn regions around the world with John Lennon & Yoko Ono’s "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" and the Filipino carol "Payapang Daigdig" (Peaceful World). These two pieces convey the season’s most heartfelt sentiment, Peace on earth, goodwill toward all mankind.

Tickets for "Christmas in the City" may be purchased by calling (818) 275-4117, or email www.TowneSingers.org/purchase.html.

Ticket prices are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Children under age 11 are $8. First United Methodist Church is located at 500 E. Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena.
