Southern California Americana band, Border Radio, will be in concert at Coffee Gallery Backstage on
Friday, December 2, 2011, at 8 p.m.
Border Radio has been a staple on the Los Angeles area roots folk music scene. Kelly McCune, songwriter
and lead singer for the band describes their music as "dustbowl swing and heartbreak -- it's music that will
have you up on your feet when you're not cryin' in your beer." McCune's voice has been compared to both
Patsy Cline and Iris Dement.
McCune’s songwriting earned her a spot in the highly regarded Kerrville, TX Folk Festival’s
New Folk Competition. The band has also performed in Austin, TX at the SxSW Music Festival.
They will be performing in January at the Florence Winter Folk Festival in Florence, Oregon.
They have 4 CDs, a new one in the works, and have been on Americana, bluegrass, and folk stations
across the country.
This year they have invited Almost Kin to join them for their holiday kick-off concert at the
Coffee Gallery. Michael Fleming (formerly of the well-known cowboy band, New West) and
members of the popular L.A. band Scambooty make up Almost Kin.
Border Radio is McCune on lead vocals and guitar, Mike Stromberg on guitar, dobro,
resonator, and vocals, John Lambdin on fiddle and mandolin, and Robert Staron on the
upright bass.
Border Radio plays at the Coffee Gallery Backstage, Friday, December 2 at 8 p.m., 2027 N.
Lake Ave., Altadena, CA 91001. Tickets are $18, and can be reserved in advance by calling
