Pacific Standard Time events in Claremont, Pomona and Palm Springs Feb. 18 and 19

Claremont / Pomona / Palm Springs special focus weekend programming will highlight Pacific Standard Time partners’ offerings

WHEN: February 18 – 19, 2012

EVENTS: Join the Pacific Standard Time celebration in Claremont, Pomona and Palm Springs for a weekend of special events at the following partnering institutions:

· American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA)

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18

American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA)
10 am – 4 pm In conjunction with the Pacific Standard Time exhibition Common Ground: Ceramics in Southern California 1945-1975, the Museum will have a day-long celebration including docent tours, ceramic artist demonstrations, and wheel-throwing for visitors age six and older with paid admission. Film screenings throughout the day include Susan Peterson’s Wheels, Kilns and Clay; Los Angeles Finlandia Foundation’s Otto Heino: A Way with Clay; and Terry Sander’s The World According to Dora.

Palm Springs Art Museum, Annenberg Theater
10 – 11:30 am In conjunction with the Pacific Standard Time exhibition Backyard Oasis: The Swimming Pool in Southern California 1945-1975, author and pop culture humorist Charles Phoenix will perform Retro Slide Show: Pools, Patios and BBQs, a celebration of mid-century SoCal backyard life and style. Tickets are $25 and $10 for students with valid school ID. Tickets can be purchased here.

Scripps College, Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery
1 – 5 pm To celebrate the Pacific Standard Time exhibition Clay’s Tectonic Shift: John Mason, Ken Price, and Steve Voulkos, 1956-1968, a special Clay Day program will include music, dance performances, and clay activities in the Bixby Courtyard adjacent to the Gallery.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19

3 – 4 pm In conjunction with Part 2: Helene Winter at Pomona of the Pacific Standard Time exhibition It Happened at Pomona: Art at the Edge of Los Angeles, Helene Winter will host an artist conversation featuring John Baldessari, William Leavitt, and Alan Ruppersberg. The talk is followed by a gallery reception.
