Shimmy Showcase Sunday

February 12 -- Please be sure to join us this Sunday, February 12 for a romantically inspired Shimmyshowcase as our newest coordinator, Draca, welcomes guest dancers Reba, Siraj, Bella and Tehani to the Shimmyshowcase stage.

Everyone is invited for a relaxing evening among friends. Select your favorite beverage, hot or cold, from an assortment of coffees, teas, smoothies or juice; add to that a tasty sandwich or pastry; and then seat yourself in the entertainment area to enjoy some really great dancing at NO cover charge!



SUNDAY SHIMMY SHOWCASE begins at 5:30 p.m. at Viento y Agua Coffee House in Long Beach at 4007 East 4th Street; 562-434-1182. Occasionally we have Saturday showcases beginning a bit later. Please refer to the detailed schedule below for more information.



Note—N405-W22 (7th St) transition is closed for construction, so for those coming from the south, the best way is to exit the 405 at Westminster as the detour indicates. Then take Westminster through the PCH intersection until it turns into 2nd street. Take the first right immediately after the bridge and an immediate left. That street will turn into 4th and Viento Y Aqua will be on the right.



Please arrive at least 15 minutes before show time (earlier if you’re a performer!), so you can first stop at the refreshment counter to get a delicious beverage, snack or sandwich; then head for the show area and grab a seat so you don’t miss any of our great performers!

Below is our upcoming schedule for the next several weeks. Note that with our March 10 Anniversary party, Shimmyshowcase for the first time will be on a Saturday! If you are a dancer interested in performing at an upcoming showcase, please read on to see whether we have openings in any upcoming showcases and send an email with your preference to Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com

February 19 – DARK -- No SHIMMYSHOWCASE (Belly Dancer of the Universe Competition)



February 26 – Shimmyshowcase will be taken over by the ever-popular JJ & the Habibis troupe on this night, and coordinator Saviya couldn’t be happier to host this wonderful, versatile troupe. Be sure to join us as the Habibis are sure to put on a delightfully fun program.



March 4 – Abraiha returns to coordinate another Shimmyshowcase with lovely guest dancers May, Liz, Janice and Rima.



March 10 – (that’s right—a SATURDAY!) --Shimmyshowcase celebrates its 9th anniversary with a special program featuring Shimmyshowcase coordinators, past and present! For the first time, Shimmyshowcase will be on a SATURDAY evening so we have more time to celebrate. We’re also starting a little later—around 6:30 p.m. Saviya has the lead in planning for this year’s anniversary party and already has one of Shimmyshowcase’s founders, Alexiis, on tap to perform, as well as current coordinators Draca, Ilana, Amber, and the Om Sisters. Please mark your calendars so you won’t miss the opportunity to celebrate Shimmyshowcase’s reincarnation in our new home, Viento y Agua Coffee House!



March 18 – DARK –No Shimmyshowcase. Instead, we recommend you attend “Once Upon a Time: A Gypsy’s Tale” featuring Shimmyshowcase’s own Saviya with Tribe Roman Morga, Katerina & the Kabuki Dolls, JJ & the Habibis and live music by Saf Mavi at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Long Beach, 5450 East Atherton Street; Long Beach, 90815; Show time is 2:00 p.m.; for reserved seating ($15 a seat) contact Douglas Law, 562-597-8445 or twinkleUmusic@yahoo.com.



March 25 - Ilana presents “Mother Earth” with guest dancers Meryem Vani, Irina-Artemis, Jayel, and Yuliya Lunessia. Come celebrate the rites of Spring with these fabulous performers and enjoy some great food and beverages at Viento y Agua coffee house.



April 1 – It’s Fool’s Day and with Saviya coordinating, who knows what to expect! One thing we know for sure is that everyone will have fun at this Shimmyshowcase. One thing we’re not fooling about is that we have dancer openings, so if you would like to perform for this Shimmyshowcase, please email us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com for a spot!
