Descanso Gardens offers Tomatomania and more in March

Camellia Walk & Talk, Saturday, March 10, 11 a.m.: Horticulturist Wayne Walker leads this exploration of the Camellia Garden. Learn to identify the different kinds of camellias and get camellia care advice from the pro. Free with admission. At Center Circle.



California Natives Spring Walk, Saturday, March 17, 11 a.m.: Welcome spring and explore the beauty of native plants in the California Garden. Rachel Young, natives horticulturist, will lead thisinformative guided walk. Free with admission. At Center Circle.



Understanding Local Wildlife, Saturday, March 17, 11 a.m.: Learn more about the native creatures who share our neighborhoods. Katherine Pease, UCLA doctoral candidate in wildlife biology, gives an overview of the area’s wildlife. Free with admission. In Maple.



Cherry Blossom Festival, Saturday-Sunday, March 24-25: Celebrate spring and Japanese culture. Guided walks will explore Descanso’s flowering cherry trees at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. both days. Enter the magical world of traditional folk tales with Japanese story time at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Introduce children to origami from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. The Camellia Lounge will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days, featuring Japanese-themed dishes and cocktails. Activities free with admission.



TOMATOMANIA!, Saturday-Sunday, March 31-April 1: Back by popular demand, TOMATOMANIA, the world’s largest tomato seedling sale, returns to Descanso Gardens. The plant sale runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, featuring heirloom and unusual varieties. Learn more about growing tomatoes in a lecture at 11 a.m. both days. Activities free with admission.



About Descanso Gardens: Established as a public garden in1953, Descanso Gardens is located at 1418 Descanso Drive, La CaƱada Flintridge, near the interchange of the 2 and 210 freeways. The Gardens are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Christmas Day. Parking is free. Admission fees are $8 for adults; $6 for seniors and students; $3 for children 5 to 12, and free for members and children 4 and younger. Fees for classes and programs include Gardens admission.
