Hamid Saeidi and KamyR at LA Co Museum of Art March 18

Award winning composer Hamid Saeidi and Persian R&B recording artist KamyR will highlight the 4th Annual Nowruz Celebration Sun., March 18 - 11:30 a.m. -7:00 p.m.
at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Saeidi, a celebrated instrumentalist whose music defies description, will premiere a piece appropriately called “Celebration”. KamyR will entertain with his soul-inspired sound that has made him an overnight sensation in the Persian community.



The Nowruz celebration is a feast of Persian culture including performances by musicians and dancers, short films, story readings, art exhibits and children’s entertainment. It is all free and open to the public in celebration of Nowruz, the 1st day of spring, celebrated by Iranians and many others around the world as the start of a new year.



“Since 2009, Farhang Foundation and LACMA have come together to celebrate Nowruz. It is a great honor for Farhang Foundation to celebrate this special day with the Los Angeles community and a true privilege to do so in collaboration with LACMA, one of our city’s prized institutions,” said Ahmad Gramian, Farhang Foundation trustee and chairman of its Nowruz committee.



The family-friendly celebration begins at 11:30 a.m. with Persian musicians and dancers in traditional attire performing across the LACMA campus; story readings and calligraphy for youth at the Director’s Roundtable Garden; and a Haft-Sîn, the traditional centerpiece of Nowruz, on display at the Los Angeles Times Central Courtyard.

At 12:00 p.m., the winners of the 2012 Farhang Foundation Short Film Festival will be announced during a ceremony at the Brown Auditorium, with seating available on a first come, first served basis. After the ceremony, the winning film submissions will play until 5:00 p.m.; no tickets required.

At 2:00 p.m. there will be a special awards presentation honoring the recipients of the 2012 Farhang Heritage and Lifetime Achievement Awards. This is followed by Hamid Saeidi’s performance at the Leo S. Bing Theater. No tickets will be required, but seating is limited. Festivities come to a close at the BP Grand Entrance with a performance by KamyR at 4:30 p.m., followed by a DJ until 7:00 p.m.
