Women In Music Network launches

The Women In Music Network (The WiMN), a new organization connecting women within the music and audio industries, launches today. The WiMN will provide a hub for all women's groups and organizations within the music and audio industries to share information, news, and events to a broader community of female industry professionals and performers. Through organized meetings and workshops, a website and online community, and special events like the annual Women's Music Summit and She Rocks Awards, the WiMN provides a community for women in the music industry.

Serving as a centerpiece for the WiMN, the official site TheWiMN.com is an outlet for the group to share news pertaining to female musicians, projects relating to women in the industry, products targeted to female musicians, special WiMN event details and other events in the community, and more. Interested parties are encouraged to join the Women In Music Network mailing list at www.TheWiMN.com/newsletter.

As it's first official event, the WiMN will host A Musical Morning: The Women in Music Network Breakfast in partnership with NewBay Media, taking place at the upcoming NAMM Convention in Anaheim, CA on January 25, 2013. Women interested in attending this groundbreaking event should register at www.thewimn.com/events/the-wimn-breakfast/.

In addition to bringing together women in the industry for the first event of its kind, the meeting will mark the commencement of the first annual She Rocks Awards, also in partnership with NewBay Media. The awards designate women who display leadership and stand out within the music industry. As honoree for the 2013 She Rocks Awards, the WiMN will spotlight songwriter, producer and Songwriter Hall of Fame nominee, Holly Knight. Mary Peavey, President of Peavey Electronics and Tish Ciravolo, President of Daisy Rock Girl Guitars will also be honored. Additional award recipients and performers at the event will be announced soon.

The Women in Music Network's founder, Laura B. Whitmore, has worked in the music industry for over 25 years, and is also the owner of Mad Sun Marketing, a boutique music and audio marketing and PR firm based in the San Francisco Bay Area. "There seems to be a gap in the support of women in the music industry, as professionals, pioneers, and performers -- especially instrumentalists!" Whitmore comments. "I want to build a hub for all the current communities out there  to share information, and to bring women in every area of the music industry together to support and encourage each other."

Prior to this, Whitmore served as marketing manager for Korg USA for two decades, handling marketing, PR, artist relations and more for the Korg, Marshall, and VOX brands. She writes the Guitar Girl'd column for Guitar World Magazine. Most recently, Whitmore organized the first annual Women's Music Summit, which took place in upstate New York in August 2012. She is currently working on the 2013 Women’s Music Summit, which will be hosted in the Los Angeles metro area.
