Alt-J kicks off tour March 2

UK-based rock band Alt-J are excited to announce additional tour dates along their spring tour of the United States and Canada, as well as the first leg of dates for their autumn headlining tour. The band has added shows in multiple markets, including San Diego, Sacramento, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Indianapolis. Pre-sale for these shows will be on Wednesday, February 27th at 10:00 AM Local Time and public on-sale will be on Friday, March 1st at 10:00 AM Local Time. Most dates along the band's upcoming US tour are already sold out, including shows at Webster Hall in New York on March 22 and Terminal 5 in New York on March 24. The band are making stops at multiple music festivals, including Coachella, Sasquatch, Governor's Ball, Bonnaroo, and SXSW. At SXSW, the band will be playing at the Warner Sound Showcase with the Flaming Lips, headlining the Windish Party, and also playing the Waterloo Records show. For a full itinerary, please see below.

Alt-J are touring in support of their debut album An Awesome Wave, which won the 2012 Mercury Prize. The band's current single "Breezeblocks" is currently top 20 at Alternative Radio, and climbing. After extremely successful fall and winter tours and the recent win of the UK's prestigious Mercury Prize Award, Alt-J are thrilled to hit the road again in 2013 on their biggest U.S. tour yet.

These numerous sold out tour dates are more evidence of the band's growing popularity and critical acclaim, which began in 2012 with the release of their debut album An Awesome Wave. December saw the band's debut landing on the top 10 lists of numerous critics, including NPR's Bob Boilen and Robin Hilton, The Wall Street Journal, Billboard, NME, The Guardian, and the BBC. The band was also nominated for three Brit Awards. An Awesome Wave was selected as the iTunes Alternative Breakthrough Album of 2012, and MTV selected alt-J as one of their Artists to Watch in 2013. mtvU also nominated the band for the "Breaking Woodie" award at the 2013 Woodie Awards, which will take place on Sunday, March 17th.

The band also performed well on various readers' polls, with a top 20 album and #2 Best New Band on Stereogum's Gummy Awards and the #2 Rookie of the Year on Consequence of Sound's readers poll. In their annual installment of the Pitchfork's Readers Poll, An Awesome Wave was selected as the #3 Most Underrated Album, and alt-J were voted the #6 Best New Artist. The band's song "Buffalo" was also included in the Golden Globe and Oscar-winning new film by David O. Russell, Silver Lining's Playbook, featuring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Robert De Niro.
