Sydney, Australia-based singer/songwriter Paul Turner was inspired to learn the guitar and try his hands at songwriting after finding inspiration in a San Francisco backpacker hostel while traveling around the world. This has significance as the musician’s previous career background was in the financial and not artistic world.
Paul released his debut album Clear Blue through his own independent record label White Lotus Records in Australia and the U.S. With that release, Paul has created a unique vocal and musical style: there’s a genuine tranquility and humility in his voice and the soulful vocals, poetic lyrics and intricate compositions show the talent and skill of an expert songwriter.
Paul has successfully infused his passion for traveling into each track and says that his love for Vipassana meditation and yoga – both of which he practices for 90 minutes per day - has a major influence on the way he writes his music and creates a sound.
The meditative vibes in Paul’s music marries both an original sound and the effect of a melodic mantra of sorts to promote inner peace for the listener.
As a sign of an ever shrinking world, Paul Turner has begun collaborating with Portland experimental cellist Skip von Kuske who will be supporting Paul’s US tour in April/May 2008.
Paul Turner has been fortunate to attract talented and acclaimed musicians such as The Portland Cello Project, a group of eight cellists, who will be performing with him at the Portland Aladdin Theater in April.
Paul has also played at The Santa Fe Music Fest 2007, the Melbourne Palm Sunday Peace Parade 2007, and has headlined various venues in Australia.
This April, he will be recording his next album with Larry Crane (Elliott Smith, Tape Op) in Portland with a new album due for release early 2009.
