End o' week musings

Wow! What a week!

When we parted ways last Friday I was heading out to see the local Girls Scouts. They were trying to beat the record for the World's Tallest Cookie Tower and they did it! Girls from all over the San Gabriel Valley worked together piling up cookies to an amazing 5-feet 4-inches. To learn more, please visit http://www.sgvn.com/ and check out my video.

Saturday I was one of several hosts on Esotouric's brand new Route 66 tour. We visited a lot of cool places, including Rubel Castle in Glendora, the Covina Bowl, the Vulcan rock quarry in Irwindale and the Aztec Hotel in Monrovia. We learned about history, crime, signs, travel and all kinds of facts that could help you win any trivia game or at least make you the most interesting person at a party. The tour will be repeated and Esotouric also offers a bunch of other intriguing outings, visit http://www.esotouric.com/

On Sunday, Zaynah and I shook our groove things at Atomic Raq-It! in Redlands. We danced as "biker chicks" weilding swords to Josie Cotton's "Maneater" and then added pink tutus for a sweet shimmy-filled Mary Lou Lord's "Sugar, Sugar."

The rest of my week was filled with interviews for stories, lots of writing and an informative meeting with the Cultural Affairs Council of Pasadena.

I'm off to spend some mom-time today after work and looking forward to a lazy weekend (except for my exercise classes tomorrow!)

And I almost forgot my good news-- Atticus, my precious Jack Russell, has been selected as Bamboo's "Pet of the Month." He will be featured in the pet product company's next newsletter and they're sending him a prize. Won't Atti be surprised!
Here's how you can help us celebrate:

Photos we got 'em: Enjoy a nice photo of my friend Donna's cute kitty and also some photos of Almase Arabesque, featuring Nocturra (me) and Zaynah at Atomic Raq-It! They were taken by our friend Richard G. Lowe Jr. You can see more of his work (and more of us) at http://www.renaissancefaire.net/ . Thank you Richard- you rock!

In rotation this week: Secondhand Serenade, Guns n' Roses, Orange Sky and HorrorPops.

Thought of the week: Happiness is where you find it (I'll be here all day- just kidding!). But seriously, you are the only person responsible for your happiness. Just yesterday someone told me of running into a former co-worker who was bragged about how much money he makes now, the car he has, etc. She asked him, "But are you happy?" He replied, "Well, money can't buy happiness." They parted ways and she thought about this some more and talked about it with me. The bottom line here seems to be that the guy may be able to afford many nice things that should make him happy, but they aren't. Happiness is simple-- it can be a sunrise, a pretty flower, some nice words from a friend. Think small and smile.

Keep on rockin'
Mickie
