The 7th annual JesusFest 2008 will be held rain or shine on Saturday, July 12 from 12 noon to 6 pm at Union Congregational Church, 3 Elm Street in the downtown section of the historic New England mill city of Rockville, CT. Parking and admission are free. JesusFest will be preceded by a special kick-off concert by global Christian artist Carman at the nearby Tolland High School Auditorium on Thursday, July 10 at 7 pm. General admission tickets to the Carman concert are $15.
JesusFest is the largest Christian festival in Connecticut, with last year's attendance estimated at 8,000 souls. After six consecutive years as a country fair held on local agricultural fairgrounds, the all-volunteer organizing team chose to gradually morph the celebration into an urban block party. JesusFest 2008 will feature an eclectic mix of live performances by Scarlet Fade, a youth-oriented alternative/indie group; Songs of Solomon, a multi-cultural reggae group; East of Nashville, a blue grass and southern gospel group; and Selfish Steam, a rock group. After each performance, a local preacher or evangelist will share a simple, inspirational message. JesusFest 2008 will also feature face-painting and balloon art for kids, displays by churches and ministries, and a used Christian book and music area.
Carman, a world-renown singer and preacher, is introducing a new CD and tour on September 11, 2008 titled Instrument of Praise. The July 10 concert in Tolland is Carman's only scheduled appearance in New England this year. During the concert, Carman will team up with local musicians and a 70-piece gospel choir to provide the audience with an unforgettable musical and spiritual experience.
