"Nirvana to Beethoven" theme for J.A.M. Session at the Ford Monday

“Nirvana to Beethoven” A FREE J.A.M. SESSION Event with
Notes From the Edge at the Ford Amphitheatre June 2 at 7 p.m.

All Ages and Skill Levels Turn Familiar Pop Tunes into Classical Masterpieces

What: Singers and musicians (string and chord instruments) of all ages and skill levels gather to learn how to transform Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Elvis Costello's "What's so Funny About Peace Love and Understanding" into modern classical arrangements. Ford season artists from “Notes From The Edge” lead the first of seven FREE Ford Amphitheatre JAM Sessions. At the end of the session all participants will perform the pop tunes together.

Who: Notes From the Edge artists
Composer & Arranger Mark Governor: a renowned film and TV composer and songwriter, has composed music for 20 feature films and over 150 TV shows. He studied with renowned American composer Aaron Copland.

Vocalist Kathy Fisher: modern rock torch singer of the band Fisher, who made music history as the first artists to be signed with Universal Records based simply on Internet success.

Cellist Peggy Baldwin: leader of the All Star Quartet. She has performed on many albums, including those of Kiss, Maroon 5 and George Harrison.

Violinist/Violist Tom Tally: controversial string player who embraces rock guitar solos as a normal part of repertoire and classical training, and is well known for his string quartet arrangements of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Eric Clapton, and the White Stripes.

The “Jazzed and Motivated” J.A.M. Session events are part of the Ford Amphitheatre 2008 Season, a multi-disciplinary arts series produced by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission in cooperation with Los Angeles County-based arts organizations. Presented by the Ford Theatre Foundation, these sessions are designed to channel participants’ creative energies and release the artist within.
