Stars to come out for The Painted Turtle benefit Monday

Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars are lending their talent in support of The Painted Turtle, Paul Newman’s Hole In The Wall California Camp. It has just been announced today that native San Franciscan and Tony Award® nominated Broadway star Manoel Felciano along with actresses Alison Pill, Rita Wilson and Robin Wright Penn will join Casey Affleck, Warren Beatty, Annette Bening, Billy Crystal, Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, Tom Hanks, Jack Nicholson, Edward James Olmos, Sean Penn, Julia Roberts and Bruce Willis in a staged reading of The World of Nick Adams, with stories by Ernest Hemingway, adapted by A.E. Hotchner and original music by Aaron Copland performed by the San Francisco Symphony. The performance is on October 27, 2008 at San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall.

Located in California, The Painted Turtle is an innovative recreational camp and family care center for children suffering from life-threatening illnesses. The camp seeks to reach beyond illness to inspire children with life-threatening diseases to become their greater selves and provides a year-round, life-changing environment for these children and their families. The Painted Turtle allows children to participate in an authentic camp experience by supporting their medical needs and offering their families care, education and respite. No child or family pays to attend The Painted Turtle. There is no billing department.

In order to provide around-the-clock medical care in a recreational camp setting, The Painted Turtle relies on California's top pediatricians, specialists and nurses (who volunteer their time for this worthy cause). Some of the Founding Hospitals and Medical Advisory Board members include: Dr. Vipul Mankad, Children's Hospital and Research Center at Oakland; Drs. Ken Cox, Lorry Frankel, and Alan Gianotti, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford; Dr. Anthony Phillips and Judie Boehmer, RN, UC Davis Children's Hospital; Drs. Sam Hawgood and Amy Houtrow, UC San Francisco Children's Hospital.

As The Painted Turtle strives to meet the growing needs of families from Northern California and beyond, it welcomes others to share in their mission and get involved. This should be a truly spectacular and singular evening that will specifically focus on The Painted Turtle's campers, volunteers, friends and supporters in the Bay Area.

Proceeds from the event go directly to The Painted Turtle Camp as well as their newest program – The Painted Turtle Outpost, a program that takes the magic of what they do at their camp-site into local California hospitals including Northern California’s UCSF Children’s Hospital and the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital
