Knott's Berry Farm to host Civil War Encampment and vist by President Abraham Lincoln Feb. 14-15

Knott’s Berry Farm will bring history to life this President’s Day Weekend with a Civil War Encampment and a special appearance by President Abraham Lincoln in honor of his bicentennial. Both events are free to the public.

Over two hundred Civil War reenactors will fill Knott’s Park Pavilion area with the sights and sounds of an authentic Civil War training camp. Blue and Gray will come together to bring history to life with displays of authentic artillery pieces and cavalry equipment as well as demonstrations of period cooking, infantry drills and special Living History presentations throughout the day. Visitors will be able to tour the camp, participate in period dances provided by authentic Victorian era bands, talk one-on-one with re-enactors and experience first hand what it was like to be a part of this critical event in our country’s history.

2009 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of President Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States. President Lincoln guided this country through the most devastating experience in its national history--the Civil War and is considered by many historians to have been the greatest American president. President Lincoln will make a special appearance during the Civil War Encampment to deliver his famous Gettysburg Address.

Guests can then continue their educational experience with a visit to Knott’s Berry Farm’s exact replica of Independence Hall. Originally dedicated by Walter Knott on July 4, 1966, the Independence Hall replica was built as a permanent, free-admission reminder of two famous events: the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the signing of the U.S. Constitution. Walter Knott constructed the building for the millions of West Coast families unable to travel to Philadelphia to tour the original. The likeness is so exact that you can see fingerprints in the brick, just as in the original.

After visiting the Civil War Encampment and Independence Hall, guests can take advantage of Knott’s Berry Farm’s "Twogether is Better" promotion running February 1 through March 1. This special two-for-one offer allows two guests to gain admission to Knott’s Berry Farm for only $25 each!

The Civil War Encampment will be open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14 and 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 15 and is located at Knott’s Park Pavilion adjacent to Knott’s Independence Hall. Breakfast and lunch items will be available to purchase both days at Park Pavilion Picnic Center.

Knott’s Independence Hall is open daily year-round from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission to the Civil War Encampment and Knott’s Independence Hall is free. For more information, call (714) 220-5244. For more information on Knott’s Theme Park, and theme park specials visit www.knotts.com
