Hard Drive, art and music event, May 16 in Irwindale to benefit Nuvein Foundaiton for Literature and the Arts


Rock and Electro music come alive with a mixture of fine art and comic book live art for charity in one evening of eclectic fun. Saturday, May 16th, the Nuvein Foundation for Literature and the Arts is holding a fundraiser to raise scholarship money for students pursuing a career in creative endeavors.
Donating their talent for this noble cause are several inde bands. Among them are I.E., a favorite from the Inland Empire "Ghetto Tech scene" with a growing following in the L.A. area. Puppy Dog, are an all female Minimalist/Glam/Thrash band that are popular in the underground music circuit. Also performing is Minimum, an indie Electronica musician from Alhambra. Joining the line up is the crazy high-energy of the three-piece punk pop group Volts from San Diego. Mixing it up with the indie rock musicians are a group of artists showcasing various forms of visual art.
G.R.O.W. Collective is scheduled to provide an exhibit that their growing fan base has come to adore. G.R.O.W. is a small collection of artists committed to the exposition of fine art galleries and non-traditional venues such as public spaces like freeway walkway bridges, some domestic and industrial spaces. G.R.O.W stands for Get Rid of White Walls.
Also on hand are the San Gabriel Valley Cartoonistas, an association of comic book artists and animators promoting their work through live art events. The Cartoonistas are a big hit in the San Gabriel Valley library circuit entertaining kids and grown-ups alike who patronize local libraries in El Monte, West Covina, Pasadena, and City of Commerce.
Providing an performance art piece, as he paints to a live dj set is Art Lopez, who hails from Pomona's artist community. A sculptor at heart, Art will also be showcasing some of his amazing paintings.
Completing the line-up for the evening are three deejays: DJ Rex, DJ Ro'Ro', AND Abe'D Babe.
All proceeds raised by the Nuvein Foundation http://www.nuvein.org/ go towards scholarships awarded to students of literature and the creative arts and to arts programs held to benefit local communities.
Nuvein Presents THE HARD DRIVE is scheduled for May 16, 2009 at the AmVets Post 113, 14910 Los Angeles Street, Irwindale, CA 91706. Tickers are $10 for all ages. Showtime is 6pm until Midnite.
