We Are The Union on tour

Today Paper + Plastick Records (owned by Less Than Jake drummer Vinnie Fiorello) introduces the US to ska punks WE ARE THE UNION with a new 3-song EP. The Gun Show Must Go On EP is available now digitally only through www.paperandplastick.com.

We Are The Union self-released a free album via PureVolume.com (Who We Are) in 2007, which caught the attention of Japanese label InYaFace Records and was released in 2008 overseas. The free album also snagged the ear of P+P owner Fiorello, who immediately contacted the band about releasing a new album.

“We have a band screen name, talktowatu,” explains vocalist/guitarist Reed Wolcott. “We normally use it to talk directly with fans. Brandon, our bassist, was logged on in January of last year when he got a message from someone who just wanted to say they liked the tunes. Through the conversation it came up that he had played drums at The Fest. Brandon naturally asked what band he was in, to which he replied "Well my name's Vinnie. I play drums in a band called Less Than Jake." Obviously we flipped out at that point. We've all been Less Than Jake fans since we were kids. This was a great moment for us.”

We Are The Union recorded the new EP with Matt Allison (Alkaline Trio, Less Than Jake, Smoke Or Fire, Lawrence Arms) at his Atlas studio in Chicago and was mixed by Bill Stevenson (Rise Against, Black Flag, Anti-Flag, NOFX). The band will head back to the studio this June to finish recording their debut with Allison, which will be released this Fall on Paper + Plastick. All three tracks will appear on the full length.

Formed in 2005, the band improves on the ska-punk formula by adding elements of hardcore, which is the result of a wide range of influences, including Lifetime, Kid Dynamite and Slapstick. The young band already have eight East Coast and Midwest tours under their belts, and have played alongside Mustard Plug, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Bomb! The Music Industry, The Flatliners and Four Year Strong.

The band is currently out on a grueling six-week tour which wraps on June 1st. Fresh out of the studio, the band will be playing the Milwaukee, Detroit and Chicago stops of the Vans Warped Tour on the Kevin Says Stage. (See all tour dates below)
