Orange Country Ragtime Society to meet and play May 16

The best in live vintage and contemporary ragtime music can be heard in downtown Fullerton with the next gathering of the Orange County Ragtime Society (OCRS) on Saturday, May 16, 2009.

The performance begins at 1 p.m. and winds up at 4:30 p.m. at "The Cave" at Mo’s Fullerton Music, 121 N. Harbor Blvd., Fullerton. No reservation is required and there’s no cover charge.
OCRS features a variety of Southern California musicians specializing in ragtime and such ragtime-related forms as the blues and Tin Pan Alley pop songs. A different set of musicians attends each time, but past performers have included Bill Mitchell, Patrick Aranda, Robbie Rhodes, Bob Pinsker, Nan Bostick, Carl Sonny Leyland, Andrew Barrett, Erika C. Miller, Tom Brier, Brad Kay and Marc Sachnoff. The club meets on the third Saturday afternoons of February, March, May, June, August and September.

Mo’s is located on the west side of Harbor Blvd. and is easily accessible by freeway from the 91 (Harbor or Lemon St. exits) and the 57 (Chapman Ave. or Orangethorpe exits). Upcoming OCRS meets are August 15 at Mo’s, and June 20 and September 19 at Steamers Jazz Club, 138 W. Commonwealth Ave., Fullerton. All performances are 1 to 4:30 p.m.

OCRS was founded in November, 2001, as an offshoot of RagFest, the Orange County Ragtime Festival held in Fullerton each fall. Both club and festival celebrate ragtime, the pop music that reigned in the U.S. from 1897 through the 1920s.
