22 Tons of snow fall on Downtown Los Angeles, Tony Alva hosts

What: Each April, over 2,000 students and friends from across California converge for the truly unique entertainment experience that is Derby Days. On Friday, April 24th, the charity spectacle Derby Days will combine high flying snowboarding with Coachella-style bands in Downtown Los Angeles. The USC Sigma Chi Fraternity hosts their annual event to raise money for the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, a Children’s Miracle Network affiliated hospital.

In only 5 years, non-profits such as Habitat for Humanity and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles have received over $105,000 from proceeds generated by Derby Days. In 2008, Derby Days donated over $50,000 to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. In the past 5 years, Derby Days has featured a mix of prominent performers and up and coming acts. Artists such as MGMT, Shwayze, and Slightly Stoopid reflect Derby Day’s commitment to presenting a variety of musical styles.

TONY ALVA, skateboard legend and CHLA supporter, is hosting Derby Days 2009, while FUEL TV and Fox College Sports film the action. The 2009 Derby Days will feature the Campus Rail Jam Tour, a portable X-treme sports entertainment event that comes with 22 tons of snow. The CRJT is a grassroots snow sports movement dedicated to promoting a mix of professional and amateur snow sports. The CRJT will kick off Friday's events with three snowboarding competitions filled with fakies, method grabs, and nose press 50-50 slides. http://www.uscderbydays.org/home.html
