Fender Telecaster Web site to celebrate 10th anniversary

The world’s largest website devoted to the first and most iconic electric guitar, the Fender Telecaster®, celebrates its 10th Anniversary May 3, 2009 with a “Ten Years of Twang” celebration. The website (www.telecaster.com) is also known commonly as the TDPRI or the Telecaster® Discussion Page.

Telecaster.com was founded as a hobby website and discussion forum in early 1999 when the internet was still fairly new, and not in every household. Now, a decade later the site is one of the largest privately owned guitar websites in the world.

Telecaster.com contains information about guitars, model dating, playing, photos, reviews, and the combined knowledge of 30,000 members in nearly two million discussion posts. The site is frequented by a million people every month from over 87 countries — ranging from new players just starting out to renowned professionals that report their experiences from the world of touring, recording and even backstage at the Grammys.

Leo Fender, founder of Fender Musical Instruments, created the Telecaster® electric guitar as the first commercially mass-produced electric guitar in 1950. While the company has gone on to create and market many other guitars, the Telecaster® is the oldest and one of the simplest and most iconic guitars on the market. The Telecaster is the main guitar associated with rockers, punk rockers and country music legends from Bob Dylan and Keith Richards to Bruce Springsteen Joe Strummer, Buck Owens and Brad Paisley.

Over the past decade Telecaster.com has hosted more than 72 million visits which rank it as one of the largest guitar websites on the internet and one of the 10,000 most visited websites in the world as ranked by Quantcast. The site was totally member supported until 2006 when the popularity of the site required a change to both member support and commercial advertising on the site.

During the Ten Years of Twang celebration Telecaster.com will give away guitars to members that simply visit the site and post comments online. A new Fender® Road Worn series 50’s Telecaster® will be awarded on May 1st and during the month a custom-built guitar, built from a block of wood by one of the members, will also be awarded.
