Shimmy Showcase Sunday

April 26: Ansuz is an awesome band that defies classification and once again we get the honor to present their fine fusion of traditional music! Alexiis is thrilled to present The Om Sisters, Brandie, Perizad, Reina, La Shonda, Estra and Leon!. This is bound to be a night you won't soon forget. Too many fine dancers to miss. Please arrive before 6:30 to ensure a seat!

Everyone is invited to this cozy haven for a relaxing evening among friends. Select your favorite beverage, hot or cold, from an assortment of coffees, teas, smoothies or juice; add to that a tasty sandwich or pastry; and then seat yourself alongside our magic carpet to enjoy some really great dancing at NO cover charge!

The SHIMMY SHOWCASE begins at 7 p.m. at the COFFEE HAVEN in Long Beach (1708 E. Broadway -- 562-437-3785).

May 3: Xandra is pleased and proud to present several excellent dancers performing in their first Shimmyshowcase plus some of our regular favorites. Please join her in welcoming Sabrina, Katya, Veronique, Patricia, Yasmin, and troupe Jamali to Coffee Haven’s magic carpet and enjoy a night of superb bellydancing before we go on a TWO WEEK break.

May 10: Dark – NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE (Happy Mothers’ Day)

May 17: Dark -- NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE (Past experience has shown that parking on in Long Beach on Gay Pride Day is much worse than usual, so we take this night off)

May 24: In honor of the holiday, we present our third annual “In Memoriam” Shimmyshowcase. Coordinator Saviya will be joined by dancers Kamar, Lylli, Najma, and Deborah in sharing their memories of individuals whom they have loved or honored through their own unique, personal dance interpretation.

May 31: Abraiha presents the beautiful May, Asaleh, Akiko and Cayla at Shimmyshowcase.


June 7: The scent of incense; the sound of chimes—Saviya brings “Asian Spice” to Coffee Haven with Delilah and Richie. Dancers who would like to bring their unique interpretation of the mystery and enchantment of the Far East--be it China Dolls, Kabuki, Noh,.Butoh, Baratha, Natyan, Kathak, Odissi, Bollywood; martial arts, geisha or dragons—are invited to contact us at shimmyshowcase@yahoogroups.com for a spot.

June 14: No Shimmyshowcase—it’s Cairo Caravan weekend. Any Shimmyshowcase dancer who will be performing at Cairo Caravan is invited to send me an email with their performance day, and I’ll include your name here!

June 21: The long, hot days of summer are upon us, and the cooler evenings offer refreshing relief and a time for fantasy and magic. Alexiis presents a Mid-Summer Night’s Dream with live music by ANSUZ. Dancer Madrid will be sharing her dreams and fantasies, and if you would like to join her, Alexiis and Ansuz, please contact us at shimmyshowcase@yahoogroups.com for a performance spot!

Since street parking around Coffee Haven is scarce, we recommend you try the perimeter of the park located two blocks west of Coffee Haven at Broadway and Cherry. Please try to arrive before 7:00 PM (earlier if you’re a performer!) as we try not to start the show until everyone has settled with a tasty beverage.
