Sugar Free Allstars to release new album

Today, join the neighborhood kids for a true garage band house concert with the Sugar Free Allstars as they debut their video "Rock Awesome" on Youtube. The rousing new song is featured on the band's April 27th CD release Funky Fresh and Sugar Free.

Funky Fresh and Sugar Free presents a rock-solid sound that parents will love and kids will groove to. From the initial call-and-response strains of “Rock Awesome” to the rousing choruses of “In My Pocket” and “SFA Disco Dance Party” and “Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da” (a new arrangement of the Beatles’ classic), these tunes will get any party started.

“Hey Now, It’s Your Birthday” invites kids to “run and jump and play on this wonderful day.” The songs “Little Red Wagon” and “Cars and Trucks” and “The Train Beat Song” are perfect for family road trips, too. The brassy song “6th Grade Band” will inspire young musicians to “learn how to rock” while they’re still in school!

Sugar Free Allstars is Chris (Boom!) Wiser (lead vocals, keyboards, saxophones and bass clarinet) and Rob (Dr. Rock) Martin (vocals, percussion) a duo that has been making funky-fresh music for families for five years, performing at venues all over their home state of Oklahoma as well as Kansas, Missouri, Texas and Arkansas.

Their 2007 debut family music release Dos NiƱos (their fourth CD release overall) brought them national attention and acclaim, including selection as one of the best CDs of the year by the Fids and Kamily critics’ poll and heavy rotation on Sirius XM Satellite Radio’s Kids Place Live, where the song “Bathtub Boy” topped their playlists for many weeks. In 2009, the band released its first live concert DVD, Gettin’ Funky with the Sugar Free Allstars, which was filmed at the City Arts Center in Oklahoma City.

Their engaging live show has been described as “equal parts Muppet Show and Stevie Wonder.” All of the songs on Funky Fresh and Sugar Freehave been tested with live audiences.

“We learn pretty quickly if a song will work or not, when we play for kids,” quips Wiser.

The Sugar Free Allstars also maintains a grown-up music career playing their “free-wheeling groove machine” (VOX magazine) style of music at clubs and other venues across the United States and Europe. Their albums are recorded at Bell Labs, a Norman, OK studio frequented by the Flaming Lips and other top artists. Their music has been featured on PBS TV’s “Roadtrip Nation.” For Funky Fresh and Sugar Free, the sound is enhanced with performances by Sarah Sanford-Brown on violin and a host of vocal talent, including a group of children.

In May, the band will celebrate the new release with performances in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Kindiefest (New York City) and the Kansas City Jiggle Jam. For more information about the Sugar Free Allstars, visit www.sugarfreeallstars.com or their Facebook home.
