Hip hop/Lugaflow artist and cultural activist Saba Saba is scheduled to perform live in Southern California on Thursday, May 6, at Zanzibar in Santa Monica (1301 5th St., 310-451-2221). The appearance, scheduled for 9:45 p.m. PT, was announced today by Angela Rose White, DaBet Music Services president and founder, who handles administration and collection services for the Ugandan recording artist.
Previously known as Krazy Native, Saba Saba will be performing songs from his new digitally released album, Tujjababya The Hardway, is available at CD Baby.com/SabaSaba.
Saba Saba co-founded the Ugandan Hip Hop Foundation and was a founding member of the Ugandan hip hop group, Bataka Squad. He has been performing since 1994 and created the use of Luganda language in hip hop music (Lugaflow). He then established himself as a solo artist in 2005 with the release of his song “Tujja-Babya,” earning him nominations at the Africa Music Awards in the Best Hip Hop Artist and Best Song categories.
Saba Saba, who currently resides in Los Angeles, was raised in The Republic of Uganda in East Africa. He has used his talent and voice in the music world to speak out against Uganda’s civil unrest and abuse of human rights. He addresses common struggles and achievements in the African culture in his music, by using traditional drumming and speaking in his native language. Saba Saba has represented African culture through his music as an artist and guest lecturer at numerous events in Africa and the U.S., including the United Nation’s first African Global Hip Hop Summit, Power to the Peaceful festival in San Francisco, and he served as a panelist for Harvard University’s conference African Youth Development through Art and Technology – The Role of African Hip Hop.
