Bob Stane says: Wow! The whole San Gabriel Valley turned into a wind tunnel and knocked out our electrical power and Internet. We had to cancel 3 night's shows and close both The Coffee Gallery and The Coffee Gallery Backstage. Just got back open today (Sunday). Now I don't want to couch this in such a way that it seems like I am begging, but we really need you to come to see our shows and patronize both The Coffee Gallery and The Coffee Gallery Backstage.
It is December and with both Christmas approaching and being closed for a few day with the wind storm, we are hurting in all ways. We need you in our time of need. Now I am whining. Don't make me do it again.

One of our favorite shows. Teresa has been here often and wows the folks. She shows how it is done and with Ventucky String Band it will be sensational in every way. Bob Stane guarantees this show. Absolutely. I wish I could send a car to drive you over. Just take my word for it. You know you trust me. I do not lie.
TERESA TUDURY & THE VENTUCKY STRING BAND......Teresa Tudury.... Hold on to your seats as Teresa Tudury takes you on a musical journey of wild and powerful songs and stories from the depths of her incredibly rich and inspiring repertoire. Teresa Tudury is an absolute original. From her San Francisco roots to the Greek Islands to New York and LA, she wakes up the music scene. Teresa creates a loyal following and rave reviews wherever she performs. Our world is richer with such a rare talent in our midst. Part chanteuse, part comedian, part bona fide pop artist…and a voice that could stop a war.” —Buzz Weekly
Picture a cross between Bette Midler and Bonnie Raitt musically, and toss in the most side-splitting stage patter imaginable, and you have Ms. Tudury.” —Johnny Angel, LA Weekly
“ I think ‘Cheering Your Little Ass On’ is the greatest song ever written.”—Charles Perry, Rolling Stone and LA Times. "Leonard Cohen meets Bessie Smith " -- Fan overheard at a "Teresa " concert. Teresa Tudury started writing songs at age 12 and was performing in San Francisco nightclubs by the time she was 15. She has played on and off in the Bay Area for years, and for almost two decades was based in Los Angeles where in addition to music gigs, she wrote comedy and worked as a character actress on stage and screen.
With a deep, sultry voice that magnetizes audiences, and a scathing comedic wit to match, Teresa sings with power, verve, passion, and disarming humor. Teresa's voice has been described as a cross between Bette Midler and Bonnie Raitt (LA Weekly). Her vocal stylings are perfectly complemented by her bluesy guitar playing.
Teresa has recorded or performed with such greats as Leonard Cohen, Rickie Lee Jones, Lyle Lovett, Taj Mahal, Leo Kottke and Bonnie Bramlett. Now residing in Sonoma County, Teresa continues to perform and write new material. Her new CD, 'Such Fine Things' joins the recently re-released CDs 'Teresa Tudury' and 'River of Life' in retail stores and online music sites.
THE VENTUCKY STRING BAND...Like a jukebox of old 78 records, The Ventucky String Band is reminiscent of a time when Jazz bands featured banjo, and Bluegrass music was as novel as the arrival of television.
Formed in late 2010, this highly skilled multi-instrumental quartet features Matt Sayles, Dave White, Rick Clemens, and David Roine, blending their decades of musical experience into a sound that harkens back to the dust-bowl era of California, and the roots of the “California-Country” sound.
Where some have tried to diminish Ventura as ragraph:“Ventucky,” this band sees their name not as a veiled jab at Bluegrass music or the city that brought them together— but instead as a tribute to the music and culture of the farmers, roustabouts, and cattlemen that helped grow the city during the early days of big-oil and agriculture in Ventura County.
Typical sets can vary from 1930’s Jazz standards & Bluegrass, to cowboy ballads & honky-tonk—all seamlessly woven together with original songwriting that draws inspiration from the deep well-spring of American roots music.
FRIDAY, December 9. Show@: 8:00 P.M. Tixs: $18

MATINEE...
Pasadena Star-News and San Gabriel Valley Tribune Holiday Party & Concert.
Rub elbows with the elite of local print media and enjoy a highly-entertaining show of music and comedy by former Righteous Brothers touring musicians, Hal Ratliff and Lee Ferrell (father of actor Will Ferrell).
A new discovery and an afternoon show for those who prefer the daylight hours.
HAL RATLIFF AND LEE FERRELL
As a musical duo, keyboardist Hal Ratliff and saxophonist Lee Ferrell deliver an exciting and memorable show that never fails to leave audiences wanting more. Their sound is a fusion of pop, jazz and rock ‘n’ roll, with humorous stage banter thrown into the mix.
The pair met while touring with The Righteous Brothers in the 1980s and eventually teamed up again to play local gigs at venues such as McKenna’s On The Bay in Long Beach.
“Hal and I have an unspoken musical bond,” said Ferrell, the father of actor Will Ferrell. “I feel so much more like playing when I’m working with him. And we have such a great time on stage just clowning around and acting silly. I think everyone has much more fun when you don’t get too serious.”
Over Ratliff’s long and varied career, he has toured continuously with The Grass Roots and also has played on countless studio sessions for both major and Indie artists. Additionally, the Lakewood resident has written and arranged songs for television commercials and feature films.
Ferrell, who lives in Irvine, said his professional career began to jell in the early 1960s when he moved toCalifornia from his native North Carolina. Shortly after arriving in Los Angeles, he landed a gig playing saxophone and organ for The Righteous Brothers.
When his first stint with the group ended in 1964, Ferrell toured the West Coast with several bands, performing everything from country to rock to the blues.
“I really love to do the stuff where I can sing, blow the horn and play the organ,” said Ferrell, who also acted as The Righteous Brothers’ road manager in the 1980s. “And it’s not so much the genre of the tune that matters, it’s the feeling behind the song and how it can give you the chills that run up and down your spine. When things come together like that, that’s when I get really inspired.”
In 2006, Ferrell wrote the song “Goodbye Cowboy” for his son Will’s feature film, “Talladega Nights.” Lee also wrote the song “Brother” for Will’s 2008 movie “Stepbrothers.” The song, which was recorded at Ratliff’s studio, is an Irish anthem about family bonds.
“Having my dad’s song in my movies is neat because it’s not like I said, ‘Hey, put my dad’s song in these movies,’” said Will. “It was the directors and the other creative decision makers that wanted to include them, so that is so satisfying for both me and my dad.”

MATINEE....KEN O’MALLEY. The theme, “"Ireland and the Christmas Star"
"The realm of the spiritual has always been prevalent at Christmas in Ireland and for me growing up, we were prepared as small children to revere the feast of Christmas. My parents were very religious and we held on to all the traditional customs and lit the red Paschal candle in the window that guided the Holy Family on Christmas night. Many of those traditions are still carried on today and there's no place like an old Irish fireside to enjoy the holiday, which lasts from Christmas Eve, St.Stephen's Day on the 26th, New Year's Eve and culminates January 6th, the women's "Little Christmas".--- Ken O'Malley
Known for his captivating storytelling as well as his rich, resonant voice, his engaging stage presence has delighted audiences for over thirty years. “He holds nothing back. Whether singing a passionate ballad, playing a solo on the mandolin, or explaining the gloriously sad history of Erin his homeland, Ken O’Malley is all-in, wide open to the world, and as true as an arrow’s flight. . . His wonderful wit and good humor draw us in and carry us along, and the beauty of his songs, both traditional and original, fills us with irresistible joy” raves Wayne Slater of Desert Song Productions.
The event promises to be a magical afternoon of music with songs in both English and Irish Gaelic, suitable for all ages. Not just a singer, about whom Dave Soyars of the Irish Herald writes "his powerful and emotive voice shines through on everything he does", O’Malley is also a cultural ambassador and educator who infuses every performance with a genuine passion and love for his native land and its people. In the words of one longtime fan "the songs Ken sings touch all of us, Irish or not, to the very core of the human heart".
Advance tickets may also be purchased at http://altadenastar.eventbrite.com. The show is likely to sell out so advance purchase and/or reservations are strongly encouraged.
