JPL story todla May 7 in Pasadena

The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce is pleased to offer the unique opportunity to hear JPL Deputy Director Lt. Gen. Eugene L. Tattini share JPL’s story, “The Center of the Universe (right in your backyard)” on Tuesday, May 7th at 3:30pm.
The event begins with a guided tour of the Theodore von Karman Visitors Center, JPL's de-facto museum of space exploration and accomplishment. Tour guides will provide information and insights into JPL's decades of space science and discovery prior to Lt. Gen. Tattini's presentation. This unique opportunity is FREE for Pasadena Chamber of Commerce members. All others pay $10.
From roots 75 years ago as California Institute of Technology students tested early rocket engine designs, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory has carried out a wide-ranging program of exploration in space and Earth sciences.  After building and operating America’s first satellite, Explorer 1, JPL sent robotic spacecraft to all of the solar system’s planets.  In recent decades the laboratory has diversified its research activities to include active programs in Earth sciences, using technologies developed for planetary missions for remote sensing of Earth, as well as in space-based astronomy, designing and launching instruments and spacecraft to search for exoplanets and examine space objects such as galaxies and nebulae. JPL also leads NASA’s program of Mars exploration, with a broad range of missions deploying rovers, landers and orbiters at the planet.
Jet Propulsion Laboratory Deputy Director Lt. General Eugene L. Tattini is chief operating officer at JPL. Before retirement from the Air Force, Lt. Gen. Tattini  commanded Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles Air Force Base, California. Lt. Gen. Tattini is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal and Humanitarian Service Medal.
The presentation begins with the opportunity join fellow Chamber members in a tour of the JPL Museum and Visitor Center. Tour guides will provide JPL factoids as you see first-hand some of the laboratory's missions and discoveries.
Jet Propulsion Laboratory has led the way in space exploration. Lt. Gen. Tattini will share knowledge about JPL's missions from his unique perspective as the labs chief operating officer.
No-fee parking is available in the JPL Guest Parking Lot. Upon entering the  facility, inform guards you are here for a von Karman event.  Directions are available at: www.jpl.nasa.gov/about_JPL/maps.cfm .
