Gilbert, Satriani & Petrucci to launch G3 Tour

I've caught a few of the G3 Tours and I'll tell you that they're worth more than the ticket price. No matter the configuration of guitar greats, I've always left in a state of awe! -M

G3 TOUR - PAUL GILBERT joins SATRIANI & PETRUCCI

~~ “I can’t wait to hit the stage with John and Paul, they are two of the scariest, most amazing players I’ve ever heard!” - SATRIANI ~~~

– Paul Gilbert is proud to announce that he will be joining Joe Satriani’s celebrated and legendary G3 spring tour. The 2007 incarnation of Joe Satriani’s popular G3 tour will kick off on March 14th in Phoenix starring SATRIANI, JOHN PETRUCCI and PAUL GILBERT. The tour will play selected dates in North America throughout March and April. The starting tour itinerary follows with more dates TBA.

Gilbert first became known for his work with Racer X and went on to platinum success with Mr. Big who topped the pop charts in 1992 with the ballad "To Be with You." Mr. Big disbanded in 1996, and a year later Gilbert made his solo debut with King of Clubs; Flying Dog followed in 1998, trailed by Beehive Live in 1999, Alligator Farm in fall 2000 and Get Out Of My Yard in August 2006.

“Get Out Of My Yard” is the first all-instrumental CD by guitarist Paul Gilbert. Known as a guitarist’s guitarist, Gilbert’s strong fan base has been asking for an all-instrumental record for years and they are about to get served up a guitar smorgasbord beyond their wildest hopes.

“Over the years, I've received tons of e-mails from fans saying,” states Gilbert. "'Dude - Why don't you make a guitar instrumental album?' But I never wanted to.”

Gilbert admits he had never aspired to write and record an instrumental as he; himself rarely listened to guitar instrumental records. “In 1988, I joined the band Mr. Big. At the same time, a big record company offered me a deal to make a solo guitar instrumental album "just like Joe Satriani," explains Gilbert. “I turned the offer down. When I would try to write instrumental songs, I don't know what to do with the second verse. In a pop song, it's ok to repeat the music and just change the words. But with no words, my second verse ends up being exactly the same as the first. How do I get around this?”

Gilbert is regarded internationally as one of the greatest players in the industry. Starting his recording career with Shrapnel Records as a teenager in the late 80’s, Paul Gilbert remains one of the most active guitarists from the original shred guitar scene, stemming from his multi-faceted talent and long range career. With Platinum success, including a number one song with Mister Big, and cult status as founding member of the legendary and highly successful underground progressive metal band “Racer X,” Gilbert’s sales draw from nearly 20 albums and 20 years as a recording artist and touring musician.

Continuing with the same successful formula as in years past, fans will be treated to individual sets by each guitarist with their own bands before joining Satriani and his band on stage for an all-star jam session. As with previous G3 tours, special guest guitarists will be invited to join the jam at select dates around the country. Past guests have included Neal Schon, Gary Hoey, George Lynch, Billy Gibbons, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Robert Fripp and Brian May.
