KCRW brings Kraak & Smaak to the El Rey

On Saturday, March 31st, Dutch outfit Kraak & Smaak will serve up their booty-shaking funkiness to Los Angelinos for the first time ever. The show, presented by KCRW, and produced by Bossa:Nova will also feature a set by esteemed DJ Mark Rae (Rae & Christian, Grand Central Records).

Always a step ahead of the curve, the Bossa:Nova crew, led by Jason Bentley, have the knack to spot talent early, and rise to the challenge of bringing such talent to Los Angeles. The crew first brought Kruder & Dorfmeister, Zero 7, Groove Armada, Lazy Dog and Gilles Peterson to the City of Angels, and now they bring the heavenly Kraak & Smaak. Heralded as “one of the 20 dance acts you must see live” by International DJ Magazine (right along side dance music giants, The Chemical Brothers), Kraak & Smaak “play a tight, dancefloor-friendly blend of house, breaks, funk and soul. They’re guaranteed to get any party started.” The live show is complete with a seven-piece band, vocalists and a ton of bass…one guarantee after another that on Saturday night at the El Rey, you will definitely need your dancing shoes.

Kraak & Smaak released their debut CD, Boogie Angst, in 2006 on Quango Music Group, to critical acclaim and, more importantly to fan’s delight. The Dutch trio will be releasing a collection of rarities and remixes on May 1st, 2007, entitled The Remix Sessions. Fans everywhere will rejoice as hard-to-find tracks, many of which were only released on vinyl, are assembled in this boogie-licious showcase. From banging dance floor " Mimezine – Can't get Enough," to funky, midtempo "Jamiroquai – Electric Mistress" to eerie, internationally-infused " Skeewiff – Man of Constant Sorrow,” Kraak & Smaak reveal their astounding vision for the possibilities of electronica. As Big Shot Magazine touted, “these guys are fusion masters who meld elements into a funky-electro house party.”
