French cable channel hosting concert contest

French pop star Patrick Bruel will make his first U.S. appearance during a tour that kicks off in San Francisco on June 4th. TV5MONDE USA, the only 24-hour French language channel that can be seen nationally in America on leading cable systems, has been named the tour’s media sponsor as part of its partnership with Arcoprod. Additional concerts include Los Angeles on June 6th, Miami on June 12th, New York on June 14th and Washington, D.C. on June 15th.

TV5MONDE USA is currently running a contest on their website (www.tv5.org/usa) in conjunction with the sponsorship. Eight lucky winners will be awarded a pair of tickets each to one of four concerts held in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami or New York. Only two prizes will be awarded per city. The sweepstakes ends on June 2 at 8 a.m. PT.

“Patrick is a huge star in France and we are delighted to help introduce his showmanship to the U.S.,” commented Patrice Courtaban, COO of TVMONDE USA. “TVMONDE USA strives to bring A-list French-speaking artists to America in order to offer a taste of French culture, and this sponsorship fits right in with that objective.”

Born in Algeria, Bruel first achieved success as an actor and earned teen idol status after the release of his second musical album, Alors Regarde, in 1989. The French media dubbed his following “Bruelmania” thanks to the screaming teenaged fans who swarmed his concerts. In 1992 Bruel earned an award for Best Male Artist of the Year at France’s annual ceremony, Victoires de la Musique, which celebrates the best singers of the year, and a World Music Award in 2003 for Best French Pop/Rock Male Artist. In addition, a skilled poker player, Bruel joined the World Series of Poker tour, winning the world championship in the Limited Hold ‘Em event in 1998. Ink & Iron Festival at Queen Mary June 8-10

The Fourth Annual International Ink & Iron Festival (3IF) is rocking the Queen Mary June 8 -10, and this year the popular festival is planning a unique way to leave its mark – by tattooing its host, the legendary Queen Mary ocean liner.

Well-known, local artist Mr. Scully has been commissioned to give the virgin Queen Mary her first tattoo. In homage to her colorful past, Trace Edwards, co-founder of Keen Entertainment explains, “The temporary tattoo is a twist on a classic - a heart with ‘Mom’ inscribed on a white banner representing the heroic efforts of the soldiers and the Queen in WWII. We continue to have a strong relationship with the Queen Mary and we are thrilled to take it a step further to pay tribute not only to the history of the ship but also the history and future of our partnership.”

The largest festival of its kind in the world, 3IF features the best talent in the international tattoo community with artists from 14 nations and 25 states, a highly anticipated music festival, custom culture car and rod show, as well as on-site tattooing by international artists, contests, burlesque shows and street performers.

Appealing to all ages and walks of life, the festival features something for everyone, including adult- and family-oriented activities, such as a French Ferris wheel and bumper cars. Complete with a 1900’s circus themed vendor village, the festival also features a big top classic circus tent. Under the big top, there is a custom bike exhibit as well as additional lifestyle vendors. The festival also offers VIP amenities, including a deluxe gaming lounge with full bars and seating. The Panhandler stage will feature performances by the renowned Vau de Vire Society, the first-annual Pin-Up Pageant and a variety of sideshow performers throughout the weekend.

The festival comprises one of the West Coast’s premiere showcases of up-and-coming talent across multiple genres of music including rockabilly, psychobilly, punk rock and rock n’ roll. The roster of artists includes Reverend Horton Heat, US Bombs and Mad Sin.

Last year’s sold-out event welcomed over 15,000 enthusiasts. The International Ink & Iron Festival continues to be more than a tattoo festival – the caliber of artists, performers and the diversity of exhibitions maintains its reputation to wow and impress an international audience.

The Showdown filming first music video

On May 21, Tennessee’s own The Showdown began filming their first music video with accomplished music video director Doug Spangenberg. The video for “Temptation Come My Way” will give a television audience their first official look at the South’s high-voltage rockers.

For their first video, The Showdown brought in Doug Spangenberg, who has directed videos for Norma Jean, This Is Hell, and Terror, as well as Lamb of God’s 2005 gold-selling DVD Killadelphia. Filmed on the same grounds used by MTV’s Jackass crew, the video will reflect the band’s 80s style and features some serious explosions!!

Frontman David Bunton says, “This music video captures the true spirit and feel of The Showdown. No holds barred, heavy metal, pyro, and headbanging. That’s what we’re all about. The goal for our first video was to give people a small taste of how rude we can be live. Heavy metal is plugged in and loud. Heavy metal is the law.”

“I was amped on the song as soon as I heard it,” says Spangenberg. “We kept it simple and shot the band shredding their faces off in a field with a shitload of pyro. In retrospect, I'm surprised they made it out with only light singe marks. They're great dudes, and I look forward to barbequing with them this summer on Ozzfest.”

Since the release of their second full-length, Temptation Come My Way, The Showdown have been living up to the high expectations placed on them by their peers and the media. The Showdown were named one of AP’s 100 Bands You Need To Know In ’07, and were profiled as a Band To Watch in Revolver Magazine.

“…plenty of hard-swinging Southern swagger...a melodic brand of Euro-accented metal delivered with a distinctive drawl.” – Revolver, April 2007

“The Showdown has brought a breath of fresh air into the metal scene with an unflinching album…ruthless and epic…” – HM, Jan/Feb 2007

“8/10…plenty of hell-yeah metal guitar work” – Outburn, Spring 2007

“…a Southern rock-influenced breakthrough…it totally shreds…” – AP, March 2007

“…pure meat ‘n’ taters heavy metal…” – Decibel, May 2007

The Showdown will be busy all summer as part of this year’s Second Stage at Ozzfest!! Tour dates are as follows:

The Frames personally invited to open for Bob Dylan

The Frames – Ireland’s enormously popular and charismatic rock quartet – have been personally invited to open for Bob Dylan this August during the American rock legend’s tour of Australia and New Zealand. The Frames – driven by the heartfelt songcraft of frontman Glen Hansard and the band’s ability to weave delicate folk melodies through blasts of big guitars and artful noise – continue to support their second Anti- album, the widely heralded The Cost, which was released this past February.

In addition to that honor, Hansard is also currently celebrating the success of Once, the Sundance-championed film in which he stars alongside Marketa Irglova, a young Czech musician he collaborates with. First picked by filmmaker and one-time Frames bassist John Carney to lend his songwriting skills to the project, the director later realized that Hansard would be a better fit than the more polished actors he was considering. Based on critics’ enthusiasm and the Sundance attendees that awarded it this year’s World Cinema Audience Award: Dramatic prize, Carney was 100% right. Fox Searchlight has since picked up the film and placed it into New York and Los Angeles theaters as of mid-May.

Called, “ a scrappy, heart-on-its-sleeve little movie” by The New York Times, the paper added [it] makes a persuasive case that the real future of [musicals] may lie not in splashy grandeur but in modesty and understatement. Filmed with more efficiency than elegance on the streets of Dublin, its low-key affect and decidedly human scale endow Once with an easy, lovable charm that a flashier production could never have achieved.”

Elsewhere, NPR touted Hansard and Irglova for bringing “an unforced intimacy to the film that is one of its strengths. To watch their characters interact is to eavesdrop on some of life’s smallest but most valuable moments. We invest in these people completely, and they do not let us down.”

As for The Cost, All Music Guide asserted, “This stuff is pure musical and lyrical inspiration,” while The Boston Globe professed, “The album is sophisticated and layered with deft orchestration. And yet, the band's songwriting and delivery display an earnestness and lack of pretension that's pure rock.”

The Frames released their debut album in 1992 and, for over nearly a decade bounced through various record deals and band line-ups. Their live album, Set List, and 2005’s Burn The Maps both entered the Irish music charts at Number 1. The latter reached #5 on The New York Times’ end of year, best-of list.

Galactic signs with Anti-

Anti- is delighted to announce the signing of GALACTIC, the New Orleans-based frontrunners of futuristic funk. Currently putting the finishing touches on their upcoming disc, From The Corner To The Block, which was co-produced by the band’s saxophonist Ben Ellman, the new recording from the five-piece – due August 21 – is set to include guest appearances from an array of today’s most innovative MC’s, including The Coup’s Boots Riley, Lyrics Born, Digable Planets’ Ladybug Mecca, Juvenile and Jurassic 5’s Chali 2na.
In advance of the disc’s release, GALACTIC – which features bassist Robert Mercurio, guitarist Jeff Raines, keyboardist Richard Vogel, drummer Stanton Moore and Ellman – will celebrate the project when they perform at next month’s four-day Bonnaroo festival, held in Manchester, Tennessee from June 14th – 17th. Participants in four of the first five Bonnaroo events, the group known for incorporating elements of funk, rock, hip-hop and electronica into its own modern variation of the genre will be joined by the aforementioned Boots Riley, Lyrics Born and Chali 2na and Mr. Lif, as well as other project accomplices like Gift of Gab of Blackalicious and Lateef the Truthspeaker.
The MC’s that contributed to From The Corner To The Block were asked to approach their lyrics with one uniform concept: Corners. Stemming from the idea that GALACTIC’s hometown is full of evocative street names inspired by history, mythology and multiple ethnicities, guest artists were asked to think of an intersection that was important to them.
Just as every corner is an intersection of two paths – for instance New Orleans’ own “Law and Desire” or “Martin Luther King and Oretha Castle Haley” – the disc is a meeting of two different styles of music. GALACTIC has played with hip-hop giants like The Roots, Talib Kweli, and Jurassic 5, and such collaborations seeded the uplifting, thought-stirring and undisputedly natural merger of the band’s electrified funk and hip-hop’s insightful lyricism on From The Corner To The Block.
On this record more than any other, GALACTIC marries the two types of New Orleans street music. Old school Brass Band second line grooves meet bounce style inspired hip-hop on the title track for which GALACTIC enlisted native superstar Juvenile - with whom the band performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live - and the up and coming Soul Rebels Brass Band. On the track “Second & Dryadres” the band called on Mardi Gras Indian Big Chief Monk Boudreaux whose chants blend seamlessly with the bands electro funk sound thanks to Ben Ellman’s innovative production.
Born in the early '90s, after Washington DC punks Raines and Mercurio relocated to New Orleans and found themselves intoxicated by a scene that nurtured The Meters, Professor Longhair, the Neville Brothers and Dr. John, the five-piece future funk outfit was born. Having spent over a decade conquering venues worldwide while building a rabid fanbase, GALACTIC junkies are drawn by the group’s merger of modern and retrospective styles. With six albums and countless landmark live shows to its credit, the instrumental powerhouse is once again headed to new territory on its new disc.
While the band has always embraced stylistic changes and relished its musical adventures, its instrumental chops have never wavered. Following up 2003’s Dan “The Automator” Nakamura (Dr. Octagon, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Gorillaz) produced Ruckus – its last before the departure of vocalist Theryl DeClouet -- From The Corner To The Block finds the ever evolving quintet continuing to test the waters of what funk can be. GALACTIC’s forthcoming set finds the forward thinking band also working with the likes of DJ Z-Trip, Lifesavas, Vursatyl New Orleans phenom Trombone Shorty and up an coming Ubituity artist Ohemga Watts, Nino Moschella.

The complete track listing for the disc is as follows:
1. I Got It (What You Need?) with Lyrics Born
2. ...And I’m Out with Mr. Lif
3. The Corner with Gift of Gab
4. Second and Dryades with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux
5. Think Back with Chali 2na
6. Bounce Baby with DJ Z-Trip
7. Hustle Up with Boots Riley
8. Sidewalk Stepper
9. From the Corner to the Block with Juvenile & Soul Rebels Brass Band
10. Squarebiz with Ladybug Mecca and Nino Moschella
11. Tuff Love with Trombone Shorty
12. No Way with Lateef the Truthspeaker
13. Fanfare
14. Find My Home with Vursatyl and Ohmega Watts

Black Francis to release "Cooking Vinyl"

The Pixies' iconic lead singer Frank Black dons his decades-old moniker - Black Francis - and, imbued by the spirit of eccentric Dutch painter/musician Herman Brood, recorded a brand new set of 11 songs, collectively titled "Bluefinger,"that is set for a September 11 release on Cooking Vinyl.
"I privately went back to the old stage name, if that even makes any sense, almost as a joke, explains Black Francis. "I couldn't get The Pixies back into a studio, but I would transform into my alter ego of yesteryear. I spoke the magic syllables aloud and nothing happened; just as I thought. Soon after, my new manager asked me for a bonus track for a "best of" compilation to be released later in the year. And as I prepared for the session, I became (honestly) gripped by the spirit of Herman Brood, and my bonus track expanded into an 11 song record called BLUEFINGER in just a few days. Thank you Herman. You were at the distant edge of my vision for years when suddenly I was under your influence like a cloud of opium, like the scent of the house of the rising sun. Bliss. Bliss. Bliss. I had spoken the magical name and nothing had happened, but I was impatient, and like so many people, I thought the magic would reveal itself in an instant, as depicted in films. Magic is more subtle. And Herman Brood did turn me back into BLACK FRANCIS. Funny how things work out. You just never know."
Directly or indirectly, all 11 songs reference Brood, known as the "Dutch personification of 'sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll.'" Brood was a rock musician going back to the 1960s, and he and his band Herman Brood and His Wild Romance, experienced success in Europe, and even scored a top 40 hit in the U.S.A. in 1979 with "Saturday Night." He was outspoken and in the public eye for decades, in part due to his relationship with the German artist, Nina Hagen. His art has been exhibited at galleries and at the Museum of Groningen in Amsterdam, and he created murals - considered by many to be valuable contributions to Dutch culture and art - in various public spaces around that city. A hard drug user for many years, he swore off most drugs later in his life, but the damage had been done. In 2001, he was told he had only a few months to live, and later that year, committed suicide at aged 54 by jumping off the roof of the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel.
"John Lennon and Yoko Ono claimed the Amsterdam Hilton in 1969," Francis continues. "The Pixies headlined their first big rock show in Holland in 1988. Herman Brood reclaimed the Hilton for his country in 2001, and now I feel he has even claimed back The Pixies, or at least me, BLACK FRANCIS."
Black Francis recorded "Bluefinger" in September, 2007 in Portland, OR. Appearing on guitars, harmonica and vocals, Francis was joined in the studio by drummer Jason Carter (Guards of Metropolis), Violet Clarke on vocals, and bassist Dan Schmid (The Visible Men). Mark Lemhouse produced the album."Bluefinger" showcases a Herman Brood cover - "You Can't Break a Heart and Have It," and ten Black Francis originals: "Captain Pasty," "Test Pilot Blues," "Lolita," "Tight Black Rubber," "Angels Come to Comfort You," "Your Mouth Into Mine," "Discotheque 36," "She Took All the Money," "Blue Finger," and "Threshold Apprehension," which is a bonus track on Frank Black's "93-03" "best of" album, due out June 12.
As Black Francis, Boston and Los Angeles-bred Black was one of the architects of modern rock as front man of the Pixies, whose "loud-quiet-loud" dynamics, primal scream intensity and free-ranging compositional style exerted a huge influence on alternative music. His solo recordings as Frank Black demonstrated his artistic restlessness, embracing alternative pop and avant-garde rock with equal fervor; he continued exploring this territory with a new band, The Catholics, for several years before journeying to Nashville to create two critically-acclaimed albums with producer Jon Tiven - 2005's "Honeycomb" and the more intense, upbeat "Fast Man Raider Man" in 2006.

Anit- acts featured at Bonnaroo

The 2007 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival will boast some of Anti-’s most diverse and uplifting acts, helping to create the one-of-a-kind musical celebration that the annual Manchester, Tennessee event has become synonymous with. Counting the outspoken Michael Franti and Spearhead, innovative singer/songwriter Tim Fite, acclaimed Australian performer Xavier Rudd, soul and gospel legend Mavis Staples and futuristic funk icons Galactic – who will have played at each of the six Bonnaroo events – this year’s ‘Roo is poised to be the best one yet.
On the heels of their rare San Quentin Prison Concert this May, Michael Franti and Spearhead will take the stage on June 15th performing material from their 2006 Anti- disc Yell Fire!, which The San Francisco Examiner dubbed “a call for hope.” Fusing hip-hop, rock ’n’ roll, reggae and folk sounds with a distinctly candid political voice, Franti – who won the Best International Documentary Award in the prestigious Harlem International Film Festival for his heralded 2005 film about the Iraq war, I Know I’m Not Alone. Franti, who risked his life in the war torn country to make the movie, and who recently took time out from his busy spring tour to entertain seriously injured soldiers at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC, has been praised by numerous press outlets for his latest disc, including All Music Guide who heralded, “the album's thread of righteous positivity, no-brainer pacifism, accept-it-or-die tolerance, and the universal unification of spirit,” adding, “Franti's brain-stimulating songwriting rises to a new level of proficiency.”
Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Tim Fite – who has drawn rave reviews for his free internet only release Over The Counter Culture – will also take the Bonnaroo stage on June 15th. With his blistering examination of commercial culture and its adverse effects on life in general and on rap music specifically, the fifteen track disc – which precedes his official sophomore disc on Anti – has yielded acclaim from Billboard, The Boston Globe and NPR’s Sound Opinions. “One of the best albums of the new year,” wrote The Chicago Tribune’s Greg Kot at the time of its February 20th release via TimFite.com. “Over The Counter Culture is both a critique and a celebration of hip-hop. It’s packed with crackling beats, wicked humor and ‘did he just say that?’ audacity.”
The following day, Australian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Xavier Rudd celebrates the sounds of his second Anti- disc and third overall release White Moth to Bonnaroo. Slated for a June 19th release, Xav – who will open on select dates of the Dave Matthews Band’s summer tour after completion of his own U.S. headlining trek – calls the hotly awaited follow up to Food In The Belly “my proudest work.” Co-produced with Dave Ogilvie (David Bowie, Marilyn Manson, N.E.R.D.), Rudd’s disc has been preceded by the enthusiastically received digital single, “Better People.”
Just signed to Anti-, Galactic the New Orleans-based frontrunners of futuristic funk will also perform on June 16th with an array of guest performers including The Coup’s Boots Riley, Lyrics Born, Mr. Lif, Gift of Gab, Lateef the Truth Speaker and Jurassic 5’s Chali 2na. Each of these MC’s join the quintet or its upcoming, exhilarating disc From The Corner Of The Block. With its street corner-inspired concept, the album’s uplifting, thought-stirring merger of the band’s own electrified funk, electronica, fusion, jazz and rock amalgam with hip-hop’s insightful lyricism – on a project that also counts Juvenile and Digable Planets’ Ladybug – won’t be denied.
Bonnaroo’s final day of musical performances on June 17th will be highlighted by noneother than Mavis Staples, who supports the April 24th release of We’ll Never Turn Back. Staples’ Anti- debut was produced by Ry Cooder and has promptly become one of the most talked about records of 2007. Entertainment Weekly wrote, “Staples' voice outshines all: rich, weathered, and full of fire, sometimes resolving in a cracked tone or a dark, knowing chuckle, her eyes still on the prize,” while The Boston Globe simply professed, “[It] seems like the album the 66-year old singer was born to make.” We’ll Never Turn Back Combines raw, emotional, contemporized versions of some of the freedom songs from the civil rights movement of the 1950s and ‘60s with other traditional numbers and new Ry and Mavis-penned originals.

Stereolab tribute album to be released

Famous for their use of vintage keyboard instruments such as Moog synthesizers and Vox & Farfisa organs, STEREOLAB has been and continues to be a major musical influence. Incorporating new instrumentation, and an increasingly complex senseof rhythm and structure, frequently making use of asymmetric time signatures as well as unorthodox chord progressions and melodic intervals, musicians have marveled over their talents. Summer 2005, Producer and Stereolab-enthusiast SHELBRIC FULLER embarked on an international music project. Searching for talent from the four corners of the globe, he assembled not only musicians but musicians who were Stereolab fans for a tribute album.
"I knew from the beginning that doing a Stereolab tribute album would be a double-edged sword. Stereolab's fan base are protective over the band's music. I thought that it would either inspire listeners or incite a revolt, but after talking with so many bands who were excited about the prospect of showing their respect for their all-time favorite band, I decided to take the risk. I am happy that I did. The effort and results are absolutely incredible and shows how Stereolab has a place in the hearts and minds of other artists."
Over the next two years, artists from UK, France, Estonia, Germany, Netherlands, and the USA worked diligently on their reworking. The songs chosen vary from different periods in Stereolab's long 17-year career. The shared idea from all the artist was not to create a song that the public would like but a reworking that Stereolab would appreciate if they listened to it themselves.
From Manson's Child's electro-rock version of The Noise of Carpet to *V*I*R*G*O* & PRYDRM's swing-glitch collaboration on Margerine Melodie, no detail was left unchecked. It sometimes took the contributors months to finish a song. PRYDRM w/Eliska's remake of Captain Easychord, in which the first and second verses are switched, makes use of his detailed editing skills to create a dramatic electronic opus. The Cleveland-based, 7-member afro-beat band, Mifune, lead by their amazing female vocalist and lush horn section brings Infinity Girl to another level. Already famous for his quirky, retro-loop style, the Coconutmonkey Rocket, rock-lounges Moogie Wonderland.
The album is comprised of 12 songs and 2 remixes by UK-based remixers, P. Madsen and the Astonishing Sod Ape. The album is presently available on Itunes for download with a physical CD release date scheduled for August 28th, 2007.

Green Day, the 24th group to become part of Hard Rock’s Signature Series T-shirt program, join music icons and legends, such as Elton John, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Ozzy Osbourne and Shakira, who have helped to raise millions of dollars for a number of charitable causes worldwide.

“We are excited to be a part of the Signature Series program and proud to partner with Hard Rock for such a great cause,” said Billie Joe Armstrong, lead singer and guitarist of Green Day. “The program is going to provide tremendous support for Amnesty International and Instant Karma, a campaign that we sincerely believe in and are committed to.”

In addition to the Green Day Signature Series T-shirt, Hard Rock’s Rock Shops will also offer the charity double album, Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur. In keeping with its long tradition of activism powered by music, Amnesty International, the world’s largest grassroots human rights organization, will use Yoko Ono’s generous gift of Lennon’s solo catalogue as the centerpiece of its campaign to focus attention and mobilize efforts for the urgent catastrophe in Darfur, Sudan.

The CD, an international effort that combines John Lennon’s iconic songwriting, technology and human rights activism, includes Green Day’s recording of “Working Class Hero.” The CD will be released by Warner Brothers Records and arrive in stores, including Hard Rock’s Rock Shops, on June 12. Proceeds from the double album –which features 23 iconic Lennon songs recorded by such best-selling artists as U2, R.E.M., Jack Johnson, Christina Aguilera, Avril Lavigne and Snow Patrol – will support Amnesty International’s efforts for Darfur and other human rights crises worldwide.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have such a revolutionary and world-renowned band as Green Day become part of Hard Rock’s global Signature Series T-shirt program,” said Sean Dee, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Hard Rock International. “We are pleased to be able to assist in this life-saving effort.”

The front of the Signature Series T-shirt Edition XXIV features an oversized tonal graphic of Billie Joe Armstrong playing guitar. The back of the shirt bears the signatures of each of the band members: Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool and Mike Dirnt. The unisex T-shirt also incorporates the words “Working Class Hero,” the title of the John Lennon song performed by the band on the Instant Karma album. The design, created by Green Day, is set on a heather-green T-shirt. Hard Rock International is offering their fans the chance to own the limited-edition T-shirt, which is available online at www.hardrock.com/rockshop and at Rock Shops at Hard Rock Cafes, Hotels and Casinos around the world.

Since it was established in 1971, Hard Rock has been committed to a wide variety of philanthropic causes and activities around the world. In 1990, Hard Rock International developed the concept of partnering with world-renowned musicians and bands to create and donate imaginative designs to be reproduced onto T-shirts to benefit the artist’s charity of choice. To date, 24 artists have participated in the Signature Series program, raising millions for a wide variety of organizations such as Crossroads Centre Antigua, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, World Hunger Year and Fundación Pies Descalzos.

This year, in addition to the Green Day Signature Series T-shirt, Hard Rock locations are also offering its counterpart – the recently released Shakira Signature Series, exclusively available in a ladies’ junior baby-doll T-shirt – as well as the popular Ozzy Osbourne, Bruce Springsteen and Eric Clapton Signature Series T-shirts in men’s and women’s styles.

OTHER: Formed in the ‘70s by George Thorogood, Jeff Simon and Billy Blough, George Thorogood & the Destroyers are a high energy group whose slide guitar and blues rock takes on songs by the likes of Chuck Berry and John Lee Hooker landed them a record deal with Rounder Records. After paying their dues in the blues scene of Boston, they recorded their second album Move It On Over, and struck a big hit with the title track, which was a cover of a Hank Williams song. In the ‘80s the band signed with EMI and released a series of gold records including, 1982’s Bad to the Bone whose title track spawned Thorogood’s best known single to date, and its accompanying video was a staple on MTV. They continued their hit-making success into the ’90s with such hits as “Get a Haircut” and many additional albums followed into the new millennium. These included a compilation released in 2004, Greatest Hits: 30 Years of Rock, which went gold and was #1 on Billboard’s blues charts for 60 weeks. George Thorogood & the Destroyers are currently crisscrossing the US on a spring/summer tour which includes a nine date run of co-headlining dates with Bryan Adams.

Raised in Compton, singer-songwriter and guitarist Keb’ Mo’ grew up in a home filled with gospel music and records of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Born Kevin Moore, he began playing guitar as a child and blew the trumpet and French horn as a teenager. After playing with local cover groups, Moore went on to play back up on the first three albums for legendary roots violinist Papa John Creach. He followed that up with a staff position at A&M writing songs and contracting demo sessions before releasing his own solo album, Rainmaker. After gigging with the Whodunit Band and appearing in LATC’s productions of Rabbit Foot and Spunk, the newly minted Keb’ Mo released this blues heavy debut disc Keb’ Mo’ to immediate acclaim. His subsequent albums continue to demonstrate his depth and artistry, three of which, Just Like You, Slow Down, and Keep It Simple all took home GRAMMYs for Best Contemporary Blues Album. In 2006, Mo’ was GRAMMY nominated for Country Song of the Year for “I Hope” which he co-wrote with the Dixie Chicks and appears on their GRAMMY award winning album Taking the Long Way. His latest album Suitcase is a diverse collection of songs that are his most personal to date. His vocals are honestly delivered and his mastery in acoustic and slide guitar shine through. From its storytelling and gritty country blues tunes to its ballads and fiery laments, Suitcase is soulful and authentic. Beyond his musical accomplishments, Keb’ Mo’ has also garnered a number of accomplishments in television and film and is committed to a number of charitable causes.

Born on November 16, 1931 in Greenwood, Mississippi and raised in Hughes, Arkansas, Hubert Sumlin was taken by the great Blues players he heard including Charlie Patton, Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters. Destined to take the place of these masters, Sumlin received his first guitar from his mother, who spent her entire $5, weekly paycheck to purchase it. He had his first encounter with the legendary Howlin Wolf, at the age of 10 when he sneaked out to a local juke joint and stood on a pile of crates to see through a window. Drawn in by the music, Sumlin fell through the window and right onto the stage where Wolf insisted that the under aged Sumlin stay and watch as he played. A few years later, Wolf brought Sumlin to Chicago where he contributed to some of the most powerful Blues the world has known. After Wolf’s passing in 1976, Sumlin continued to play with Wolf’s band for four years before leaving for a solo career in 1980. Sumlin has gone on to record as both a leader and a sideman sharing the stage with everyone from The Rolling Stones, to Elvis Costello and Santana. His 2005 release About Them Shoes was conceived by Keith Richards, produced by Rob Fraboni and garnered a 2006 GRAMMY nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album. Sumlin continues to tour bringing his original and personal blues feeling to music lovers across the U.S.

Overkill to release new album and go on tour

Bodog Music is proud to announce the signing of legendary thrash metal band Overkill and the release of the band's newest studio album this fall. The signing will reunite Overkill with Jonny and Marsha Zazula, previous owners of Megaforce Records, the label responsible for putting metal on the map and bringing Overkill's New Jersey thrash metal to the world. The Zazulas are now a part of the Bodog Music Team in the United States.
"Whoever said you can't go home again?" says Overkill frontman Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth. "Well, whoever it was, they were wrong, as this reunites Overkill with their first and biggest supporters. Here we come - again!"
"I went to meet up with Overkill at their recent sold out show in NYC and they were better than ever," says Jonny Zazula. "They're heavy as hell and I loved it."
Since forming in 1980, Overkill has put out over 20 albums. Despite various lineup changes, the band has never gone on hiatus and has continued to stay true to the metal genre it helped create. With Megaforce Records and their management company, Crazed Management, the Zazulas were responsible for the early careers of such bands as Metallica, Anthrax and Ministry, among many others.
"Now, as it was 20 years ago when we signed Overkill, I continue to have the utmost respect for what they have done," Marsha Zazula says.
The upcoming album and corresponding East Coast tour will feature Overkill's latest lineup, which along with Ellsworth, includes original bassist D.D. Verni, guitarists Derek "The Skull" Tailer and Dave Linsk, as well as the newest member to join the band, drummer Ron Lipnicki.
Ellsworth says Lipnicki "adds a new dimension of brutality to a proven formula. I was knocked on my ass by his talent. We look forward to debuting him on our upcoming Bodog Music release."
Overkill released three albums on Megaforce Records before making the jump to Atlantic Records where a string of critically-lauded albums, including 1991's quintessential Horroscope, solidified Overkill as one of the best metal bands of all time. In the past few years, the band has released such gems as Killbox 13 (2003) and ReliXIV (2005).
There are few names as well-respected as Overkill, and with the resurgence of metal in the music word, this band is poised to return to the top. Overkill is ready to show old metal heads they still have it and to teach the new schoolers exactly how it's done.

SPCA launches PetStyle Contest

The SPCA (http://www.spca.com ), one of the leading organizations raising public awareness of the issues surrounding pet adoption, spaying/neutering, and animal abuse issues, today announced the launch of the PetStyle Contest. Co-sponsored by Dog.com, the Web’s premier destination for retail pet products, this inventive national contest is designed to point the spotlight on everyone’s favorite four-legged friends!

Does your cat belong on the catwalk? Is your dog particularly "fetching?" If the camera loves your pet (and vice-versa), here’s your chance to play paparazzi and show your furry friend’s natural celebrity while competing for over $120,000 of incredible prizes – including a glamorous first-class trip for two to Beverly Hills!

Contestants can submit their pet’s pictures online by visiting the PetStyle Web site (http://www.spcacontest.com ), completing an entry form, and uploading their favorite pet photo. Because most pet parents have trouble deciding on just one photo, contestants are able to upload a selection of their pet’s top poses. Once a photo is approved, registered users can begin voting for Spot, Sparky, or Santa’s Little Helper. Entries must be submitted by July 5, 2007.

“One would be hard-pressed to find a pet parent who didn’t enjoy taking photos of their furry friend,” said Stephanie Scroggs, Director of Communications for the SPCA. “This contest gives those parents the opportunity to learn more about the SPCA and how they can help.”

All contestants with at least one approved photo will receive a $10.00 gift certificate from Dog.com and a free one-year membership worth $25.00 from the 1-800-HELP-4-PETS Pet Protector System.

Megadeth fans thrilled about new release

MEGADETH fans made their feelings about the group’s new CD UNITED ABOMINATIONS (Roadrunner Records) known this week, buying over 54,000 copies and vaulting the esteemed metal group to #8 on Billboard magazine’s Top 200 Albums chart, their highest debut since 1994’s Youthanasia CD. The album is also #1 at metal radio.
In a website posting to his fans on the night of the album’s release, MEGADETH’S founding singer/guitarist DAVE MUSTAINE said, “I want to tell you all how much I love you and how many times I have felt like I was going to explode in anticipation just watching you hear United Abominations for the first time.” In typical MUSTAINE style, he went on to say, “Your love for Megs has fired me up to make a record I love, beyond just about anything I have ever done. I would like to say a ‘lil prayer that each one of you would know how much I love you and appreciate your support…even the assholes.”
The new CD finds MUSTAINE and the group--GLEN DROVER (guitar), SHAWN DROVER (drums) and JAMES LOMENZO (bass)--in their caustic metal glory with songs like the title track, “Amerikhastan” and the next single “Washington Is Next,” which is climbing the charts at active rock radio. The album also features “A Tout le Monde,” now a duet with Lacuna Coil singer Christina Scabbia.
In a Guitar One CD review, Chris Gill said, “Thanks to a resurgence of progressive and thrash metal featuring technically proficient guitar playing, largely brought about by a new generation of bands influenced by Megadeth, Mustaine is once again at the front of the metal movement--this time as a knowing sage instead of a cocky young upstart. This has inspired Mustaine to pursue his artistic vision with renewed vigor, the results of which are boldly on display on the latest Megadeth album, United Abominations. (May 2007).”
And Paul Gargano of Livedaily.com added, “With America's war against an ever-morphing evil waging as the backdrop, Mustaine has delivered Megadeth's most musically pointed and lyrically poignant effort of the past decade. Bolstered by a band that holds its own against even the classic 'Deth daze, the band's Roadrunner Records debut (and 11th studio effort overall) is brimming with musical moments that scream vintage Megadeth, all bound together by a lyrical fusion of political rhetoric and Mustaine's wise-ass wit (5/21/07).”
United Abominations is the first new Megadeth CD since 2004’s The System Has Failed, which entered the charts at #18.
MEGADETH’s current tour dates are as follows, with U.S. dates scheduled for early September through October to be announced soon.

Joe Henry release due out in September

Joe Henry – the veteran singer, songwriter, guitarist and acclaimed producer – will release his second Anti- disc, Civilians, on September 11th, 2007. The twelve song set, which arguably stands as the most alluring and artfully direct album of his storied ten album tenure, was recorded and mixed in his home studio and counts the talents of guest pianist Van Dyke Parks on the brilliantly poignant “Civil War” and the emotive, lilting “I Will Write My Book.”

With jazz guitarist Bill Frisell, pianist, arranger and chamberlain organist Patrick Warren, guitarist and dobro master Greg Leisz, bassist Dave Piltch and longtime drummer Jay Bellerose, Henry has assembled an ideal cast for his latest disc. And from the blues-inflected, “Time Is A Lion,” or the memorable love-torn ballad “Scare Me To Death,” to the album’s centerpiece “Our Song,” Civilians finds the troubadour balancing sharp personal and political observations with assurance and sophistication.

On the latter, Henry wryly and soulfully chronicles an overdeveloped, insensitive and downright pushy America as he imagines bumping into baseball icon Willie Mays at a Scottsdale, Arizona Home Depot. “It’s no accident that the song falls where it does, in the middle of the record,” Henry admits. “It’s sort of the hub of the wheel. The tone of the song began to influence the way I heard all the others.”

But if that song and the aforementioned “Civil War” are ripe with what Henry calls “political undertones and overtones,” he insists they weren’t deliberate. “I have never sat down with the idea of writing a quote-unquote political record, or even a political song, for that matter. The process of writing for me is the process of discovering what I’m writing about; and I never really know where I’ll wind up. And in this case, I see in retrospect that the times in which we live have subverted the process. But I would say the songs are more emotionally political than topically so.”

Henry says his only goal for Civilians was, “to make a better record and different record than I’ve ever made. And yet I don’t think I’ve ever made a record where I felt less concerned by what anyone might think of it – be it my label, my manager, my wife, or whomever. I felt completely liberated, and I think that the fact that I’ve been producing so many records for other artists has got me to the point where I’m working from a place of strength, rather than a place of resignation.”

Having produced artists as diverse as Ani DiFranco, Aimee Mann, Billy Preston, Bettye LaVette, Allen Toussaint and Elvis Costello and the 2003 Grammy Award winning Solomon Burke disc Don’t Give Up On Me – plus his longtime hero Loudon Wainwright III for the soundtrack to the upcoming Judd Apatow movie Knocked Up – Henry says all of these collaborations have informed Civilians.

“As a producer, you can see a project in a completely different way,” says Henry, who also recently worked with Richie Havens, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, John Doe and Bob Forrest on the soundtrack to the upcoming, Bob Dylan-inspired Todd Haynes film, I’m Not There: Suppositions On A Film Concerning Dylan. “Working with other artists allows you to be wholly invested but without your ego in the way, and it has given me an incredible education; so that when I come back to do work for myself I plug into the music in a different way, I’m able to see where I’m going with an aerial view.”

“The songs have the right amount of smoke, the right number of mirrors and the right kind of clarity,” Henry concludes. “I feel like I’m moving forward with Civilians. I wouldn’t say it was effortlessly, but this record certainly feels as if it happened the way it was supposed.”

Track listing for Civilians is a follows:
Civilians
Parker’s Mood
Civil War
Time Is A Lion
You Can’t Fail Me Now
Scare Me To Death
Our Song
Wave
Love Is Enough
I Will Write My Book

A Portugal. The Man show is usually never what you quite expect, truly never the same night after night, and these upcoming concerts should prove to be no different. The band utilizes a compelling light show to create various moods and a balance of abstract esotericism and vivid metal imagery, and guest musicians tend to jump on stage for a song or two. Expect to hear a selection of new songs from "Church Mouth" as well as songs from the band's 2006 album, "Waiter: You Vultures!" "Church Mouth," a departure from the drum-machine and sequencer-heavy "Waiter: You Vultures!," is an organic record that transcends genre constraints by managing to recall seemingly disparate acts such as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the White Stripes, the Mars Volta, and Santana.
Lyrically, the schizophrenic-sounding "Church Mouth" centers on political and religious imagery. From the funky soul-prog feel of "Sugar Cinnamon" (think an updated version of the MC5), to the psychedelic groove of "Oh Lord," to more melody-driven yet equally intense rockers like the title track and "Children," and the hauntingly exquisite "Shade," Portugal. The Man's unique sound has its roots firmly in front man/songwriter Gourley's abstract vision and unique upbringing.
Gourley was raised in a remote log cabin on the outskirts of Wasilla, Alaska that was powered by a generator and had no phone. His mom and dad doubled as a team of dog sled mushers. Add in an extended period of homelessness, a love of science fiction and a desire to make music that does not sound like every other band, and the genesis of Portugal. The Man was formed.
Gourley and childhood friend Carothers formed PTM in 2003 with Portland, OR's Jason Sechrist joining in 2005. To this day, PTM employs a rotating cast of guest musicians outside of the core three. Gourley is also an accomplished visual artist having created the stunning artwork for the "Church Mouth" package as well as PTM's previous releases, tour posters, t-shirts and other items.
With more dates to be announced, confirmed dates for Portugal. The Man's North American summer tour are as follows:

First Rock on the Range festival was a success

When Right Arm Entertainment developed the idea for the first annual ROCK ON THE RANGE--a day long full-on rock festival at Crew Stadium in the centrally located Columbus, Ohio--it was unknown how successful the event might be.

With nearly 35,000 music fans of all ages passing through the gates of the sold-out stadium Saturday, May 19 to experience eleven hours of music from some of the top-selling rock artists of today on two stages, it’s clear this is “where rock lives.” And plans are now being laid for next year’s event that will feature more top rock artists armed with guitars and stacks of high-decibel amps.

ROCK ON THE RANGE delivered the goods, from the classic Texas rock blues of ZZ Top, to the soaring melodies of Evanescence and the untamed swagger of Velvet Revolver. The main stage was also highlighted by performances from Hinder, Chevelle, Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin; the line-up for the second stage rocked with performances from Papa Roach, Buckcherry, Puddle of Mudd, Operator, Black Stone Cherry, 2 Cents and Whitestarr.

As noted by the Columbus Dispatch (May 20, 2007), the crowd was “young and old, mohawked and clean cut, wild and reserved. Some buried themselves in bodies on the stadium floor, bass pulsing through their feet, crowd-surfing, head-banging and screaming with the lyrics.”

When headliners ZZ Top prepared to take the stage, the announcer asked, “When I say ZZ, you say…” “Top,” the crowd screamed in an enthusiastic return. It was the grand finale of Saturday’s all day celebration of American Rock & Roll.

“We're bringing back arena rock,” says festival producer Del Williams. “It’s our goal to establish ROTR as the franchise festival for rock fans and rock bands. We believe that rock is alive and well and living in the hearts of millions of people around the world. We’re already working on Rock On The Range 2008.”

Amel Larrieux's new CD released yesterday

“With talent like Larrieux's anything is possible.”—Vibe, 2000

Bliss Life Records, released Amel Larrieux’s collection of great American standards, Lovely Standards yesterday.
“I grew up watching musicals from the 40’s and 50’s, and my grandfather used to play standards on the piano while our family sang," explains Larrieux, "It was inevitable that I try my hand at interpreting these songs because they were very influential in shaping who I have become as an artist.”
Singer, songwriter Amel Larrieux and producer Laru Larrieux have handpicked a collection of songs. Their nuanced delivery once again exhibits this pair's versatility and devotion to their craft while defying stereotypes. Parlaying Amel's reputation for vulnerable yet intense interpretations of her own songs into an intimate and relevant portrait of classics ranging from Ellington to Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Larrieux will also be performing two shows at BB Kings this Saturday, June 26, at 8 PM and 10:30 PM. Tickets are $27.50 and available on www.ticketmaster.com. BB Kings is located at 237 W. 42nd St., between 7-8 AVE.

Don't miss "Healing the Divide" CD

His Holiness the Dalai Lama, composer Philip Glass, sitarist Anoushka Shankar, the throat-singing Gyoto Tantric Choir, and TOM WAITS – performing with the Kronos Quartet and Greg Cohen – are among those featured on HEALING THE DIVIDE: A CONCERT FOR PEACE AND RECONCILIATION, out July 10 on Anti-. HEALING THE DIVIDE will be available both as a CD and online at the iTunes Store.

Culled from a September 21, 2003 benefit concert at the Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall in New York – during His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 20-day tour of the U.S. – HEALING THE DIVIDE is a musical meeting of East and West. Transcending cultural boundaries through music, the performances on HEALING THE DIVIDE range from meditative to theatrical; guttural to beautiful; and always powerful and purposeful in support of a very human cause.

All of the artists, Anti- Records, and Healing the Divide are donating all their proceeds from sales to Healing the Divide’s Tibetan Health Initiative, a program that provides health insurance and medical care to impoverished Tibetan Buddhist monks and nuns living in refugee settlements. Each CD purchase provides one year of health insurance.

In this recording of the 2003 event, His Holiness the Dalai Lama affirms, “It brings me great happiness to see artists and musicians gathered together here in support of the people of Tibet and in support of peace and reconciliation. We have to make every effort to promote human affection.”

TOM WAITS headlined the evening in a night that featured a rich mix of musical traditions and cultures from Native American flute to West African kora. Four songs from his 50-minute performance are on the CD, most significantly the previously unreleased “Diamond In Your Mind.”

For fans of WAITS, it’s a pleasure and surprise to hear his voice large and dramatic against the spare, angular and expressive string arrangements that “worked ingenious variations on Mr. Waits’s waltzes and hymnlike tunes, skewing the oom-pah-pah to various places around the beat,” according to New York Times critic Jon Pareles.

When asked how he found himself sharing the stage in what was primarily an evening of sacred traditions in music, WAITS replied, “I’m no fool. It’s a spiritual insurance policy. Hell, at my age, the next group I put together, everyone may be playing a harp. All kidding aside, I owed His Holiness a favor. He did all my papers in school.”

Healing the Divide, a nonprofit organization founded by Richard Gere in 2001, is dedicated to collaborative solutions to humanitarian crises. “The release of this CD helps us raise awareness about the worsening condition of Tibetans both inside and out of the region,” explains Gere. “The funds raised not only allow us to positively change the lives of the Tibetan people, but will also allow us to promote invaluable Tibetan Buddhist concepts of peace and compassion.”

Track listing for the CD is as follows:

StarStyle.com to offer country music

Entertainment Media Works (EMW) today announced the expansion of their music coverage on StarStyle.com (www.starstyle.com) to include country music with the launch of Sugarland’s “Everyday America.” StarStyle is putting fans one step closer to their favorite music artists with its commerce enabled media player which will allow Sugarland fans to watch the third single released from Sugarland’s “Enjoy the Ride” album and shop the styles worn by Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush in their video.

“The country market is so important to music coverage and we’re really excited to launch this component with a duo as successful as Sugarland,” says Entertainment Media Works CEO Ashley Heather.

EMW created StarStyle as a destination website to allow users to identify and buy the styles seen in TV, movies and music videos. The StarStyle Media Player creates new revenue streams for artists and labels as well as the brands exposed in music videos.

The StarStyle Media Player incorporates a proprietary contextual commerce engine that identifies products featured in the video and allows fans to watch music videos while simultaneously shopping for those products. The StarStyle team works behind the scenes on the sets of music videos as they are being shot in order to identify the actual items used. This benefits brands by allowing their products to be clearly identified and gives consumers a direct purchase opportunity, while also helping labels and artists to further monetize the video. Artists also benefit by creating a deeper one-to-one relationship with their fans.

In the two years since the Top Five single "Baby Girl" put Sugarland on the map, they've sold almost three million copies of their Mercury Nashville debut, Twice The Speed Of Life, won an American Music Award for "Favorite Breakthrough Artist," and an Academy of Country Music Award for "New Duo/Group of the Year." Now, with a Grammy nomination for "Best New Artist," six CMA nods, arena tours from coast-to-coast and appearances on national TV shows like The Tonight Show and Good Morning America, the little band that could did, in a big way.

Hear Horse the Band's latest on the Web

Named one of Alternative Press Magazine’s 100 Bands To Watch, HORSE the Band are preparing themselves for a late-summer release of their third full-length album, A Natural Death (KOCH) on August 28. The band has also posted “Murder,” a song from the new album, on their MySpace page. Check it out at www.myspace.com/horsetheband.

“We posted a series of ads and pictures featuring dead wolves who were killed in an 'un-natural' way (i.e. by humans and technology). This is meant to explore the irony of 'a natural death' and make people ask themselves, 'What is natural?' Nature being murdered by man is paralleled by man being murdered by nature, which is a theme of our album,” says guitarist David Isen.

“A Natural Death is about the futility and arrogance of creation and destruction, the overwhelming scale of space and time, and the brutal majesty of nature, the horror of birth and the beauty of death. Everyone who will ever live will die a natural death, and will soon after be forgotten for eternity. Hopefully this album will serve as a warning to the human race to stop taking itself so seriously, as we have seen the dire consequences of its actions in the future. You are nothing.” proclaims keyboardist Erik Engstrom.

For A Natural Death, HORSE the Band tapped seasoned producer Brian Virtue (Jane’s Addiction, Audioslave) to man the controls. The track list is as follows:

01 – “Hyperborea”
02 – “Murder” (available now on MySpace!!! www.myspace.com/horsetheband)
03 – “The Startling Secret of Super Sapphire”
04 – “The Beach”
05 – “Face of Bear”
06 – “Crickets”
07 – “New York City”
08 – “Sex Raptor”
09 – “Broken Trail”
10 – “The Red Tornado”
11 – “Treasure Train”
12 – “His Purple Majesty”
13 – “Kangarooster Meadows”
14 – “Rotting Horse”
15 – “I think we are both suffering from the same crushing metaphysical crisis”
16 – “Lif”

HORSE the band consists of five demigods running from a haunted past they can't possibly remember. Formed on the mean streets of Los Angeles after the birth of the new millennium, the members of HORSE began to create their exotic sound to fight the past and create the future.

HORSE the band consists of Nathan the tormented poet beast on vocals, David the hyper-intelligent lover on guitar, Erik the child-like wizard of keyboards, Chris the baby horse awaiting his gelding on drums, and Dash the gritty urban barbarian on bass.

HORSE the band's music has won them many accolades for energy and originality. Often referred to as 'nintendo-core' because of their spastic and glorious brutality, they prefer to strike out and create their own unique sounds each time they manifest their powers. One thing is for certain - You will love them or you will pretend not to, but in the end you can not deny their prowess.

“Few up-and-coming bands have a better formula for success than Californians HORSE the Band” – Ottawa Sun, April 2007

“HORSE the Band never fails to entertain.” – Our Generation, April 9, 2007

“…oddly cool…” The Idaho Statesman, April 20, 2007

HORSE the Band has just wrapped their first headlining tour with The Number 12 Looks Like You, Light This City and So Many Dynamos.

KOCH Records will release A Natural Death on August 28, 2007. Check out “Murder” on MySpace right now!! www.myspace.com/horsetheband

UK's Livin Out Loud is taking on America

Livin Out Loud, initially made famous in the United Kingdom, is set to become one of the most buzzed about R+B groups in America. The group’s constituents, Reuben MacCalla, Sylvia MacCalla, Lisa LaShawn, and J. Martini, have already relished #1 widespread success across the UK as not only are their beats regularly at the top of the music charts but their rhythms continue to dominate the UK club scene. Currently on the radio and iTunes, "All that Really Matters," held the #1 spot on the UK charts for 3 weeks straight.
With varying musical backgrounds and expertise, Livin Out Loud made perfect sense as a group. After working with J. Martini at Universal Studios and Lisa LaShawn at other varying gigs, Sylvia, along with brother Reuben, began to bounce song ideas off one another. Shortly thereafter, the foursome began writing songs together. The unique harmonies that resulted were a distinctive blend of R +B and Dance that listeners across the world can enjoy alike.
Reuben MacCalla and Sylvia MacCalla are the groups founding members. Reuben is the creative producer and is credited for writing the majority of the group’s tunes. Sylvia, had success prior to the group , performing in the United States tours of the Broadway smash hits of "Rent" and "Hairspray". Reuben and Sylvia led the Livin Out Loud tour in November 2006 opening for Grammy nominated R+B artist Ne-Yo and playing the UK Southport Weekender (one of the UK's top recognized music events). The groups’ additional two members Lisa LaShawn and J. Martini have also experienced tremendous successes in the record industry. Lisa has worked with the business’s top producers including Diane Warren and Derrick Bramble. J. Martini, the offspring of four generations of musicians, was previously a backup singer for the legendary Paul Simon and performs on national tours for the infamous Frankie Valli.
Producer Reuben MacCalla utilizes the best technology in conjunction with world-class musicianship to create a New School vibe with Old School roots. Moreover, Livin Out Loud writes all their own materials to insure their sound is distinctive and original. To further illustrate, when the group wants to create a track with an older vibe, they get assistance from world class musicians who have played with some of music’s greatest including Ray Charles and Miles Davis. Livin Out Loud continually collaborates with producers in both New York and London to give a broader ear and better ensure a sound that listeners across the globe will enjoy alike.
Furthermore, Livin Out Loud utilizes originality, blending, and authenticity to create their music. Livin Out Loud amalgamates live musicians, production and a combination of their unique voices to generate their signature sound. Their music is rooted in story telling, expressing feelings and experiences. Most notably, Livin Out Loud remains authentic in each genre which is dictated by their moods, hence the group’s title Livin Out Loud.
Notwithstanding previous successes across Europe, Livin Out Loud is very much looking forward to infiltrating airwaves across the Unites States with their debut album "What About Us," due out on July 17, 2007 and is distributed by Universal Music Groups’, Fontana Distribution. The album’s single "All that Really Matters," has already blown up the UK charts. "Do Your Thing," an upbeat track, will be the first single to be released from the album.
As part of their US launch they have secured a business deal with Robbins Brothers. Livin Out Loud has teamed with the world’s largest engagement ring retailer and Fluid Media Networks (American Idol Underground) to produce a compilation album entitled "Perfect Proposals: 10 Perfect Love Songs." The CD was fostered to provide couples with unique and interesting ways to propose. Ultimately, this unique compilation CD will provide couples with another means of making a special moment even more memorable.
