Montreal's Mobile to release US debut

Montreal-based rock quintet MOBILE (pronounced Mo-BILE) will release their U.S. debut TOMORROW STARTS TODAY July 24 on The Militia Group (U.S. and worldwide outside of Canada)-- the independent label that launched Copeland’s hit Eat Sleep Repeat and is home to such artists as Cartel, Juliette and The Licks and Jill Cunniff.
Although new to U.S. audiences, the French Canadian MOBILE are now certified gold in Canada and closing in on platinum. This April, the group won the Juno Award (Canadian version of the Grammy’s) for “New Group Of The Year.” The band has been praised as “clever, edgy and authentic” (Vancouver Sun) and “addictive to the ears” (Chronicle Herald, Nova Scotia), boasting “moody vocals and giant choruses” (Toronto Sun) and “…a large spacious and strong sound behind Mat Joly’s rafter-reaching vocals” (Montreal Gazette).
In the last year and a half MOBILE--MAT JOLY (vocals), FRANK WILLIAMSON (guitars), CHRISTIAN “Criq” BRAIS (guitars), PIERRE-MARC HAMELIN (drums), DOMINIC VIOLA (bass)--have toured Europe and Canada, performing over 300 shows and earning a reputation as a dynamic live act. The group played at the following high profile festivals: Oxegen (w/The Who, Death Cab For Cutie, Kasabian), A T In The Park (in Scotland w/Sigur Ros, Richard Ashcroft, Primal Scream), Hyde Park (London), Winterhur (Switzerland) as well as the Verge Fest in Boston, MA. MOBILE will be touring in America this summer, with dates getting underway June 21 in Buffalo, New York.
Recorded with respected Canadian producer Matt DeMatteo (Hawksley Workman, Danko Jones, Ashley MacIsaac) and mixed by the internationally renowned Mark “Spike” Stent (Madonna, Massive Attack, Sting) TOMORROW STARTS TODAY is full of standout songs that are as hooky as they are evocative. The first two focus tracks--"See Right Through Me" and album opener "Montreal Calling"--feature the explosive instrumentation and catchy choruses that have made the band favorites in their native Canada. Boasting solid depth throughout, other highlights include the title cut, "Dusting Down The Stars," "Scars," "Lovedrug" and "New York Minute."
In other news, “Tomorrow Starts Today” is featured prominently in the film Bon Cop, Bad Cop--which won a Genie Award (Canadian Oscar) for “Best Motion Picture” and went on to score the highest box office revenues in Canada (2006). Likewise, the song “Montreal Calling” was included on NHL 2007, while “New York Minute” is featured on FIFA 2007 (soccer)--all games from Electronic Arts.
From Montreal with love, MOBILE: Transporting rock for the modern world.
