Joe Henry and Loudon Wainwright III reunite for concert

As a continuation of the alliance that Anti- artist Joe Henry and Loudon Wainwright III first forged working on the soundtrack and score to the smash Judd Apatow film "Knocked Up," the esteemed musicians will reunite for a special show on November 9th at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.

"This is something more than a traditional concert bill, which might have one of us opening for the other," says Henry enthusiastically. "Instead we are designing the evening to be a continuation of our collaborations of the past year."

Henry is currently drawing the best praise of his career for his second Anti- disc Civilians, which was released on September 11th. Counting a contribution from Wainwright, as well as the skills of Van Dyke Parks and Bill Frisell, Henry (who has produced artists as diverse as Ani DiFranco, Aimee Mann, Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint, Bettye Lavette, Mary Gauthier, Teddy Thompson and the 2003 Grammy Award winning Solomon Burke disc Don't Give Up On Me, among others) returned the favor by lending his production talents to Loudon's recent disc, Strange Weirdos.

Calling the El Rey gig "a natural extension" of the work they've done thus far, the heralded singer, songwriter and producer says, "Loudon and I will share a full band for the evening. Performing alone and together with the band, solo and in duet settings, we think planning the evening as a fully-realized, sprawling and collaborative concept offers us a unique opportunity as well as our audiences."

While Henry ramps up for the November release of the soundtrack to the Todd Haynes film, "I'm Not There: Suppositions On A Film Concerning Dylan" (for which he produced Bob Dylan covers by the likes of Richie Havens, John Doe, Bob Forrest, Marcus Carl Franklin and label mate Ramblin' Jack Elliot), Civilians has drawn strongest acclaim of his ten album tenure;

SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE "...the masterpiece of his career... It's impossible to rank the 12 cuts on "Civilians" because each is uniquely compelling....one of the best CDs of this or any year."

DALLAS MORNING NEWS "A softly gorgeous disc that makes the name Joe Henry one to remember."

DETROIT FREE PRESS "...an exquisite collection of songs that is Henry's career achievement to date."

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY "At times reminiscent of Tom Waits and later-period Dylan, Civilians matches Henry's rough croon with a rich, warm sound that instantly draws you into its sonic world. You won't want to leave."

PERFORMING SONGWRITER "In the past 15 years, Joe Henry has quietly fashioned some of the most eclectic albums in contemporary music. Civilians ranks among his best.

POPMATTERS.COM "It's the very best of what American songcraft can give us."

VANITY FAIR "after producing Aimee Mann, Solomon Burke and Elvis Costello Joe Henry has done his best work on his own new album Civilians."
