“If you play this record backwards, you'll still hear voices telling you to break shit, get arrested, and drink Jägermeister. They just might suggest you read a history book, too.” – VILLAGE VOICE
“the deeper you go into the record, the more reassured you become that these musicians know what they’re great at.” – NEW YORK TIMES
“if there were a list of heavy metal commandments, number 666 would read: “Thou shalt devote thyself to the worship of High On Fire”. Every rifff Matt Pike unleashes is beyond colossal...Pay your respects.” – KERRANG!
“Already regarded as one of modern metal's most face-meltingly fantastic bands, High on Fire further solidifies its reputation with Death is This Communion, the Oakland trio's fourth, most commanding album.” – SAN FRANCISCO WEEKLY
“sharp and in your face, like a scimitar.” – BLENDER
“epic pummeling.” – SPIN
“The band's music is marked by an undeniable intelligence that, oddly, makes the whole thing all the more aggressive. When your body's been thrashed inside-out by sound waves, do you really need a head trip, too? Sure, if it's High on Fire.” – BALTIMORE CITYPAPER
“the Oakland, Calif., trio crafts an alloyed assault of old- and new-school metallic mayhem that wields the gritty speed of Motörhead, the brute force of Slayer and the bat-shit insanity of Converge.” – PHILADELPHIA WEEKLY
“skillful counterbalancing of gigantic heaviness with moments of musical refinement has High on Fire flirting with greatness, on arguably their finest work to date.” – POPMATTERS.com
“undeniable as the sickest, thickest jams in their catalogue—and about three times catchier. Dudes march in perfect military lockstep as riffs tumble down like walls of awesome—Kensel a one-man steam engine; Matz the white-hot pistons to the drummer’s unbending cylinders; Pike’s raspy roar an authoritative reminder of High On Fire’s total post-Sabbath, post-Celtic Frost, post-Motörhead supremacy. Call it “stoner metal” if you gotta. We’re going with F*ck yes.” – PAPERTHINWALLS.com
