2008 Polar Music Prize winner to be announced May 21

The official international announcement of the 2008 Polar Music Prize will take place in New York City on May 21st at 6 pm EST at the Residence of the Consul General of Sweden.

The Polar Music Prize Ceremony will take place on Tuesday the 26th of August 2008 and will be presented by His Majesty, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.


The Polar Music Prize is one of the most prestigious and unique music prizes in the world, crossing over musical boundaries and awarded to individuals, groups and institutions in recognition of exceptional achievements. The Polar Music Prize was founded 1989 by a donation by the late Stig Anderson.


Each recipient receives a total amount of one million Swedish Crowns which is equivalent to approximately USD 164.000 or EUR 106.000.


Laureates from a wide range of countries, cultures and continents have received the Prize in Stockholm from the hand of His Majesty, King Carl XVI Gustaf.
