1950s Roadster show coming to Pomona

Grand National Roadster Show travels back in time to recreate the classic 1950s Roadster Show with Twice in a Lifetime; January 23-25, 2009, at the Pomona Fairplex.

Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Grand National Roadster Show (GNRS)—the longest- running car show in the world—Twice in a Lifetime will relive the classic roadster show with a recreation of the cars and highlights from the 1950s.

Visitors and participants will travel back to the 1950s to experience how the old armory-style car shows looked and felt, from the smell of the car wax, oil drums partitioning the show cars, and ceiling banners announcing the lovely show queen.

Additionally, a timeline from 1950 to present day of special and award winning rods, bikes, customs, trucks and more will be part of the presentation offering a unique look at the transition of trends over the decades in styles, colors, components and more.

“The Pomona Fairplex is the perfect setting with its vintage, 1930s-era buildings,” says John Buck, producer of the GNRS. “We found a photo of the 1959 show at the old armory in Oakland, California, and thought recreating one of the exhibit buildings to look just like that photo would help tell the whole hot rod-show story. We’re excited to see how the public will react to actually stepping back in time and experiencing a live 1950s car show.”

Highlights of the event will be a multitude of classic and vintage roadsters, including past “America’s Most Beautiful Roadster”-winning cars, historic show bikes and show cars.

Mark your calendars for Friday through Sunday, January 23-25, 2009, for the Grand National Roadster Show’s 60th Anniversary: Twice in a Lifetime. The event will be held at the historic Pomona Fairplex, 1101 West McKinley Ave., Pomona, California.
