BLACK WATER RISING is pleased to announce their nomination for Best Rock/Alternative Artist at the 2009 High Times Doobie Awards. The NY-based rockers will be performing live at the show which is being held this Saturday, March 21 at the SXSW Festival. The 7th Annual Doobie Awards goes from high noon 'til sundown at the Red 7 (611 East 7th Street) club in Austin, TX. Also scheduled to perform are Priestess, Wino, Year Long Disaster and more!!
Newcomers BLACK WATER RISING are facing some stiff competition and will be going up against such rock mainstays as Mars Volta, Staind, Eagles of Death Metal, Danko Jones and Warrior Soul.
“It's nice to see the smoking culture accept us like they have,” said guitarist John Fattoruso. “High Times has backed up BWR from day one. Though not all of us take part in smoking, some of us do from time to time (and sometimes a little more), so this nomination means a lot to all of us. After seeing the bands that we were nominated with, it makes this all that much sweeter because we are being recognized with some of the bigger bands out there today. Win or lose, it feels good to be acknowledged. Playing SXSW is going to be a great opportunity for us to get our music out there even more. I've played Austin, TX a bunch of times, but this is my first time playing SXSW, so I’m pretty excited to see what it’s all about.”
Singer Rob Traynor also commented on the nomination: “I like pot, and I like High Times. To be recognized and placed amongst other kick ass bands is a real honor. I’m psyched for the show, psyched to smoke some killer crop, and psyched to be nominated.”
BWR will be pulling double duty that day, playing the High Times awards ceremony in the afternoon and the Texas Rock ‘N Roll Massacre show at the Troubadour Saloon that night!
BLACK WATER RISING is currently playing a string of dates to support their upcoming self-titled debut, which streets April 7.
