National Library Week is April 12-28

Communities nationwide will celebrate the contributions of libraries and library workers during National Library Week, April 12 to 28, 2009. This year's theme is "Worlds connect @ your library."

Whether you're looking to make a small change in your life or a big change in the world, you only have to go as far as your library to get started. From books and magazines to accurate personal finance tools and free Internet access, you can find the resources you need at your library.

Americans visited their libraries nearly 1.3 billion times and checked out more than 2 billion items in the past year, and library use continues to climb. Survey results indicate that sixty-eight percent of adults in the U.S. have public library cards, the greatest number since the American Library Association (ALA) started to measure library card usage in 1990.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is an annual observance by the ALA and libraries across the country. April 14 is National Library Workers Day and April 16 is Support Teen Literature Day.
