Between the Trees wins mtvU's Freshman contest

BETWEEN THE TREES was just announced as the winner of mtvU’s Freshman contest, a poll that MTV’s mtvU site held for fans to vote on their favorite new band. As winner, BETWEEN THE TREES’ video “We Can Try” has been added to mtvU’s regular on-air rotation.

The follow-up to BETWEEN THE TREES’ THE STORY AND THE SONG, SPAIN, their sophomore album, made a high debut on the itunes charts as the #29 Top Selling record overall, and the #6 selling rock album and hit the Billboard 200 at #138 shortly thereafter. In conjunction with the CD release, BETWEEN THE TREES is also currently headlining a nationwide AbsolutePunkNet. ‘Next Favorite Band’ through October 5.

One of Alternative Press’ “100 Bands You Need To Know,” Ryan Kirkland (lead singer, guitar, keyboards), and brothers Josh Butler (drums) Jeremy Butler (bass) worked with producer Stuart Brawley (Michael Jackson, Don Henley, Celine Dion) on SPAIN. Touring continuously over the last two years, BETWEEN THE TREES has performed in front of thousands, with 400 live performances nationwide. They played on the Warped Tour for three consecutive years, and with such bands as Switchfoot, O.A.R., Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Flyleaf and Mae. The band has also had two sold out UK tours.

BETWEEN THE TREES is the first artist “upstreamed” from a Universal independent to a Universal major, and their first CD debuted on Billboard’s Heatseeker South Atlantic Chart at #3, Heatseeker National chart at #50 and Independent Album chart at #44. Their music has been placed in numerous television licensing opportunities including MTV, Live With Regis & Kelly and The Best Years on The N Network.

Also involved in the “To Write Love On Her Arms” campaign, their music has become the soundtrack for the organization, which is dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for those struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. Lead singer Ryan Kirkland introduced founder Renee Yohe, a struggling addict to drug/alcohol counselor David McKenna during a seminar; becoming an inspiration in her book “Purpose for the Pain,” a journal of her road to recovery. Ryan wrote two songs for Rene titled “The Way She Feels” and “A Time For Yohe,” included on ther first CD, and the campaign has since become nationally renowned through endorsements of such artists as Paramore, Jon Foreman from Switchfoot, Amy Lee from Evanescence, and more.
