Pasadena air quality update

AIR QUALITY UPDATE FOR PASADENA – 9/9/09

The Pasadena Public Health Department reminds everyone that although air quality has improved now that the Station Fire has moved northeast, it remains unhealthy for people with health issues.

Even when there is no odor of smoke, individuals with respiratory or heart disease, pregnant women, elderly persons and children should continue to take precautions when they are outside.

Results from local air monitoring indicate that air quality is most unhealthy in the morning hours but tends to improve throughout the day.

Today’s alert will stay in effect until further notice.

For more information about preventing the health impacts of smoke, visit http://www.aqmd.gov/ej/CAC/wildfire_safety_tips.htm or call the Pasadena Public Health Department information line at (626) 744-6012.

Pasadena residents and businesses are reminded that preparedness is key to staying safe during disasters and emergencies. For emergency preparedness information visit www.cityofpasadena.net/disaster or call (626) 744-7276.

Residents of Pasadena would do well to check the air quality of their respective areas from the different websites that provide air quality alert as well as asthma and allergy alerts. This way they would be in a better position to take precautionary measures against pollen allergies and other diseases.

Good advice, Tony. I subscribe to Mediclim online and receive notifications when conditions may trigger asthma attacks. There are many terrific resources at our fingertips today.

Thank you,
