Tom Peters to perform with "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" at Boston Court in Pasadena

Boston Court presents double bass player and composer Tom Peters performing a live electronic music score to the digitally restored 1919 German expressionist classic, "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari," considered to be one of the most important examples of German Expressionist cinema.

This special performance on Saturday, October 24, 8:00 p.m., is part of the ongoing 2009 Music at the Court season at Boston Court Performing Arts Center, 70 North Mentor.

The performance is also a featured event of the Pasadena Art & Ideas Festival, sponsored by a consortium of arts, science and cultural institutions under the leadership of the Pasadena Arts Council.

According to Peters, "this performance should fit quite nicely into the theme of 'Origins.' It's one of the earliest horror films ever created and even after 90 years, it still has the power to shock!"

Peters, a popular performer at Boston Court, is known for his interpretations of contemporary music with a special interest in music for double bass and electronics. In 2008, Tom released a recording of John Cage's seminal work "26' 1.1499 for String Player," with KPFK's John Schneider performing Cage's "45' for a Speaker" on the Tiger Barb Records label. Peters has performed with Southwest Chamber Music since 1998 and is a member of the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, and Ensemble Green, a contemporary music ensemble based in Pasadena.

He has performed a series of solo concerts at The Branson since 2005 and was featured in a live broadcast over Nordwest Radio in Germany in 2004. Peters teaches double bass at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach, and is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music.

Music at the Court concerts are held in Boston Court's Marjorie Branson Performance Space, an intimate and acoustically exquisite hall of warm woods and metal construction. All shows, including Peters, are $20 general admission, $15 senior/student for advanced tickets, and $25 general admission/$20 senior/student for tickets purchased at the door. Tickets are available at www.bostoncourt.org or by calling 626-683-6883.
