The Material releases album

The Material has independently released their debut album WHAT WE ARE today, January 11, 2011. This follows an earlier release in Australia and New Zealand that coincided with the debut of Freshwater Blue on MTV. The band’s song “What Happens Next” is the program’s theme song, and alongside multiple tracks being the soundscape for the reality series, a groundswell is building down under.

The Material has also released the song “Stay Here Forever” on the video game Rock Band. Previously, the band sold over 250,000 downloads of their previous release via the Rock Band network. Aside from distribution via all digital stores including iTunes, Amazon and others, physical copies of WHAT WE ARE will be available in select Hot Topic stores around the country. They are also available via mail order at the band’s web sites.

On January 15, they will be performing at NAMM in Anaheim, CA on the Sennheiser stage. Additionally, they will be travelling to Austin for a performance at SXSW as a part of the Red Gorilla Festival. A full routing of upcoming appearances can be found here: http://www.myspace.com/thematerial

The Material was recently chosen as one of the Top 20 bands in the Sennheiser Hear I Am Canadian Music Week contest in Toronto, wherein public voting began today. They have recently been featured in Substream Magazine, Music Fashion Magazine, Tattooo Magazine, and on countless on-line music sites. Hailing from San Diego, CA, the band has been supported by media outlets in the realms of television, internet, radio, and even video games. Selections from the band’s repertoire have been featured on MTV's "The Hills", the WB's "Sorority Forever", and multiple other placements. The video for the song "The Truth About Reality" aired on MTV2.
