Upstate New York band Epigene has announced the release of its third album A Wall Street Odyssey: The City, The Country And Back Again. The double album set is a rock opera and a brilliant soundscape encompassing numerous genres from pop to progressive, psychedelic folk, electro clash, new wave and beyond.
The hero of the story is Yossarian (inspired by the main character of Joseph Keller’s seminal novel Catch 22), who stages the scene as an overworked Wall Street investment banker. We meet Yossarian at his high stress job which destroys him physically, emotionally and spiritually. Drug addiction and homelessness are part of his story until his brother finds him and brings him “back to the country” to find a new way of life in communal living. He experiences a complete life transformation and wants to share his message with others.
The lyrics within the opera are powerful and thoughtful – “Despite my expertise I offer no guarantees of your prosperity or health of the economy… I will help you save, invest, insure; I’ll prepare you for an uncertain future.” (Money Master) “Digging in the earth, I’ve sown the seeds of my rebirth. “ (Sanctuary)
Epigene are husband and wife team Sean Bigler and Bonnie Lykes. The duo conceived this opera back in 2005 while living in upstate New York. Epigene started in Seattle in 2000 and as the world enters a new decade, they are providing a message that is timely, inspiring, and frightening in parts.
A Wall Street Odyssey: The City, The Country And Back Again is scheduled for an April 5 release and it will be promoted at Triple A / Non Commercial radio. The double CD set visually resembles a small book, featuring a unique packaging with full lyrics and colorful images.
