GERALD ALBRIGHT – The jazz and R&B icon is considered to be one of the most innovative and successful artists of the last twenty-five years. With the June 15, 2010, release of Pushing The Envelope on Heads Up International, a division of Concord Music Group, the sax titan showcases his polished soul/jazz vibe featuring special guest appearances by Fred Wesley on trombone, Earl Klugh on acoustic guitar and George Duke on acoustic piano. Pushing the Envelope is nominated for a 2011 Grammy in the category of “Best Pop Instrumental Album.”
Produced and arranged by Albright, Pushing The Envelope provides the perfect opportunity for this master musician/saxophonist/songwriter to exhibit his skills. He plays soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, flutes, bass guitar, and keyboards, and also handles synthesizer, EWI and drum programming. Albright’s band on most of the album includes keyboardists Tracy Carter and Luther “Mano” Hanes, guitarist Ricky Watford and drummer Ricky Lawson.
PETER WHITE - For nearly twenty years, Peter White has made the acoustic guitar a dynamic and expressive voice in the overall soundscape of contemporary jazz. Since his first recordings in the early 1990s, he has infused pop standards and his own original material with a sense of innovation and energy. Set for September 2009 release on Peak Records, Good Day features all-new original songs sprang from ideas White accumulated over the past 10 to 15 years.
“I hadn’t made a CD of original songs for some time,” says White. “The last one was Confidential, which was released in 2004. So I just started going through my backlog of material – songs that I’d never finished, some going as far back as ten or fifteen years – and I discovered that I had a lot of gems. I wanted to record them in my own time and in my own way, without any outside influence or interference.”
It all comes to the surface on Good Day, his new released on September 8, 2009, on Peak Records, a division of the Concord Music Group. The 2010 Smooth Jazz Awards awarded Peter “Best Guitarist,” “Best Song of the Year” - Bright, and “Best Album of the Year” - Good Day.
