Get Up Kids on tour

On Tuesday (Jan 25), AJ gets to do something he's dreamed of since he was a teenager: be a part of a new Get Up Kids release. This is a band that only gets better and better over time. The most exciting thing about The Get Up Kids' There Are Rules is the fact that its a total progression. The band aren't rehashing old sounds that they grew out of, or trying to mimic a past release that might have gotten more attention than the rest. Instead they gotten back on the horse and wrote a record for 2011 that they and everyone who's ever loved them can enjoy. Its dirty, aggressive, fun and catchy as hell.

For those of you where aren't as familiar with the band as you should be (!), they were a pivotal emo band in the 90's that (for better or worse) helped set the stage for many bands to follow. This is their first studio full length of all original material since 2004. Since the band called it quits half a decade ago, they've become a bit of a reverse supergroup. Matt Pryor has enjoyed a very successful solo career under his own name as well as The New Amsterdams. James Dewees had a great streak as Reggie and the Full Effect, later touring in My Chemincal Romance, Rob Pope now plays bass in Spoon as well as TGUK, Ryan Pope played in Koufax and Jim Suptic went on to start Blackpool Lights. Its great to have them all back together writing and playing again, and it was well worth the wait.

The band will be headlining all winter to support the release, and no doubt playing somewhere near you. You don't want to let this pass you by. There Are Rules is being released on the bands' own label, Quality Hill on CD and LP, and is distributed by Redeye.
