THE EAST VALLEY JAZZ SEXTET...6 Los Angeles professional musicians who share a passion for playing jazz. After many years of perfoming, recording and writing music for such artists as, Woody Herman, they have joined forces to form an instrumental ensemble offering a fresh approach to jazz standards, funk tunes and Latin music.

Tenor saxophonist Larry Cavelli thrills with lightening fast solos reminiscent of his days with Woody Herman and touches hearts with a sensitive chorus on "Soul Eyes". Guitarist Dan Ferguson. Dan has been a "Studio" musician for the past four decades playing on such Television scores as "The Rockford Files","Night Rider", "The "A" Team" and has performed and recorded with well known artists such as "Rare Earth", Boz Skaggs, Maynard Ferguson and Count Basie. Dan is just as comfortable playing an unaccompanied verse on the timeless ballad "Polka Dots and Moonbeams" as he is playing a "funk" solo on Steely Dan's "Josie".

Mike Julian is a trombone innovator. His improvised solos are unique in content and extremely personal in substance. His experience as a jazz "small group" coupled with his years of touring in contemporary groups has provided him with a sound and style that is very interesting and entertaining.

Pianist Richard Kahn, is a professor of Commercial Music at Los Angeles Valley College in Van Nuys Ca. Richard has produced his own jazz CDs and manages a busy concert schedule.
Bassist Chris Coulter has become a mainstay in jazz groups in Los Angeles since moving here from northern California.

Bob Dawson is the resident arranger and composer for the EVJS. responsible for the fresh settings for jazz standards and original material.
