Weinland to tour

Portland, OR’s Americana rock band WEINLAND are excited to announce a three week tour through the Western U.S., making their way to Austin for the annual SXSW® Music and Media Conference.

In anticipation of the upcoming run, Filter Magazine exclusively offers readers a FREE download of the brand new song “Los Processaur,” which is scheduled to appear on the band’s third full-length album. Download the song here:

“It’s been almost a year since we've spent significant stretches on the road,” admits WEINLAND vocalist/guitarist Adam Shearer. “When you tour four or five months a year, for years on end, you make a lot of friends on the road… good friends even! It’s exciting to get out and see all of our old pals. But, even more exciting is the chance to get out and show old friends what we've become as a musical entity.”

The band has released two well-received albums on Badman Recording Co. (My Morning Jacket), and while supporting their sophomore album, Breaks In The Sun (2009), the band was already hard at work on a new album.

“I was actively writing for the next record while we were touring the last one,” says Shearer. “One of the songs, 'Another Dollar Rainy Day,' even worked its way into the set list on that tour.”

This upcoming run will feature a handful of new WEINLAND songs, including “Los Processaur,” and will reflect the band’s growth since releasing Breaks...

While the band’s previous work focused on careful instrumental arrangements and gentle vocal intimacy, WEINLAND has been letting loose and embracing the band’s vivacious live sound and sing along harmonies.

“Our live shows have always been high energy, and we went into this new record with the intention of capturing our live personality. It’s a lot harder than one might assume! In the past rather than let songs push tempos and get loud we would carefully preserve the integrity and intimacy of each piece of music, but after playing 200 shows we found ourselves pushing the limits of everything,” adds Shearer.

Further embracing their rock nature, WEINLAND was recently featured on NPR’s All Songs Considered with their own take on Led Zeppelin’s “Hey Hey What Can I Do” for the tribute album From the Land of Ice and Snow, which was released in October.WEINLAND recorded the new album, including “Los Processaur,” with Adam Selzer (M. Ward, She and Him, The Decemberists) at Type Foundry Recording Studio in Portland, and will unveil release plans in the future.

Not only content with a new album in the can, following this tour WEINLAND plans to record a new EP with friends The Portland Cello Project, which is expected to be self-released in May. Shearer and the cellists have collaborated on stage often, but have been discussing the possibility of recording together for a while now.

“We've selected the songs and are arranging and tracking string parts in between our respective tours,” he says.

WEINLAND’s diverse sound has allowed the band to play with a number of different artists, such as The Decemberists, Deer Tick, Minus 5, Laura Veris, Dashboard Confessional, Horse Feathers, Dr. Dog, Bonnie Prince Billy, Langhorne Slim, including upcoming shows with Dave Hause (of The Loved Ones), Joey Cape (of Lagwagon), and Valiant Thorr.
