About Sunshine Factory

Sunshine Factory is a preschool in the Los Angeles suburb of Palmdale, or a band from Palmdale. For purposes that suit us, we will discuss the band.

Sunshine Factory creates ethereal yet playful songs that bring a fresh interpretation to dreamy music. This sound is evident on the band’s debut 7-inch, “Lower Away” b/w “Tidal Waves,” containing two songs that delight, and promise a bright future for this aptly named group. Gigging around L.A. and building an audience all the way, the band has now begun to assemble an EP which will contain two songs recorded solo by band-leader Corey Judge and performed on the grand piano donated in the 1960’s to Hollywood radio station KPFK by The Beach Boys.

The story of Sunshine Factory began in the sleepy desert town of Palmdale, California just outside of Los Angeles. Corey Judge learned to play clarinet at age nine and discovered the guitar at age fourteen. The Beatles, Beach Boys, and Pink Martini are big in his record collection. Corey met Jordan Judge when his parents brought him home from the hospital – they are brothers. Jordan learned to play the guitar at age thirteen and his love of music covers the wide spectrum from Giacomo Puccini and Bear McCreary to Simon and Garfunkel to The Shins.

The brothers met John Karwoski in late 2006 and he soon became Sunshine Factory’s permanent drummer. Karwoski is inspired by music like Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, and The Smiths. The final addition to the complete Sunshine Factory line-up occurred in early 2009 with the arrival of Tony Hammons. Hammons adds his own style to the fray, with influences such as Radiohead, Elliott Smith, Bjork, and Sonic Youth.

With the full line-up in place, Sunshine Factory recorded and self released a demo and began playing shows around Los Angeles to get their sea legs. After garnering the attention of Culdesac Kids family leader, Steve Martin, the band has now released its debut single.
