Ken Bonfield & Steve Davison in Altadena Aug. 5

Artistry of the Guitar, a player-in–the-round concert series developed by Ken Bonfield of Gloucester, MA and
joined by Steve Davison of Little Rock, AR, will perform a concert at the Coffee Gallery Backstage on Friday August 5, at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 at the door and the Coffee Gallery Backstage is located at 2029 Lake Ave., Altadena, CA. For reservations please call (626) 794-2424

Artistry of the Guitar is a feast not only for guitar lovers, but also for anyone with a passion for acoustic
music. The guitarists trade songs and stories about their compositions and their approach to the guitar in
a casual concert setting. The music focuses on contemporary instrumental American Fingerstyle Guitar
with folk, jazz, Celtic, classical and blues influences. The guitarists are very different stylistically and these
different styles contribute to an evening of broad musical tastes.

Bonfield and Davison have been featured performers at such venerable rooms as Caffe Lena, the oldest coffee house concert venue in the country, Club Passim in Cambridge MA, Eddie's Attic in Atlanta, and The Mozaic Room, Blackstone River Theatre, Kent State Folk Festival, Newport Guitar Festival, Montreal Guitar Show, and the Healdsburg Guitar Festival. And they've shared the stage with acoustic artists of all stripes including popster Jahn Mayer, folk icon Arlo Guthrie, guitar luminaries Alex de Grassi, Adrian Legg, Ed Gerhard, Dakota Dave Hull, Bill Mize , Larry Coryell and more... More than a few Grammy's on that list!

Bonfield, an American Fingerstyle guitarist, known for his hummable melodies, humorous stories, dry wit, and his inventive use of alternate tunings and exotic instruments built to his own design, defies musical classification. Is Fojazzical a musical genre? If it is, that's what Bonfield plays. He uses themes found in Celtic, American Folk, Blues, Jazz, Classical, even Rock and Roll. For this concert he will debut several pieces on his new Carruth Harp Guitar; an instrument that was quite popular in the early 20th Century but largely forgotten until the past decade. Armed with an extra 5 'sub-bass' strings in addition to the guitar's standard 6 strings, the guitar covers a symphonic range, from the lowest bass note to the highest note on a violin. Bonfield is one of only a handful of American guitarists who perform and tour with a harp guitar. "Bonfield is one of the finest guitarists performing today." Bill Binkelman, Wind & Wire

Steve Davison is a finger style guitarist who composes on both the 6 and 12 string guitar. An aging hipster, his musical career started at age 12 playing the drums in a multitude of rock and roll bands. At the tender age of 19 he saw a performance on solo acoustic guitar in Denton, Texas by a performer named Thom Ward that changed his life. He put down the sticks and picked up the guitar and started a life long journey of discovery. A two-time finalist and 2005 winner of the solo competition at the Arkansas Acoustic Music Festival at the University of Central Arkansas and a finalist in the 2009 Merle Travis Fingerstyle Competition at the Ozark Folk Center, Steve has performed at acoustic venues around the country. He has opened for such artists as Richard Thompson, Pierre Bertaud, and Emily Katz and shared the stage with Larry Coryell, Peter Janson, Dakota Dave Hull, Tim Farrell and Ken Bonfield.
