Tom & Patrick Sauber shows in August

Hey there,

I know it's been quite a while, but my left thumb was in need of some re-hab and I had to take a break from playing. It's not quite back to full strength, yet, but good enough so that I can get back to teaching and playing some gigs. Give me a buzz if you want to come by for lessons.

There are a few gigs coming up, too, that you might be interested in:

Next SATURDAY, AUG 13, LOAFER'S GLORY will be playing a concert at Cal Tech put on by the Folk Music Society there. Loafer's Glory is made up of Herb Pedersen, Bill Bryson, Patrick Sauber and myself and we play a mix of Bluegrass and Old-time music. There was a nice
article that appeared in yesterday's edition of the Pasadena Star News. You can look at it - go to
www.pasadenastarnews.com/ci_18619005

(funny how this prints out - there is an "underscore" between "ci" and "18619005". It's invisible in the above link). The concert is at 8:00 p.m. in the Beckman Institute Auditorium. Tickets are $15, $5 youth. Reservations or more info at (626) 395-4652 or events@caltech.edu

The following weekend LOAFER'S GLORY will be playing at SUMMERGRASS the Bluegrass festival in Northern San Diego County. The fest runs Friday thru Sunday, AUG 19-21. We'll be playing 2 sets on Friday and one Saturday evening. Also on the bill will be The Grascals, one of the top bands in the country. The fest is held at the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum (sounds great, doesn't it?), 2040 N. Santa Fe Ave., Vista, CA 92083. There's camping, too. Check out www.summergrass.net for all the info.

Also at Summergrass there'll be a bluegrass "boot camp" (workshops) Saturday and Sunday mornings. I'll be teaching fiddle, Patrick mandolin, and Herb will cover rhythm guitar and singing. Details on the Summergrass web site.

And rounding out the Summergrass weekend, Patrick will be playing 2 sets with The BLADERUNNERS on Sunday.

And for you dancers, the EARWIGS will be playing a Contra Dance in Sierra Madre on Saturday, the 27th (4th Saturday) at the Sierra Madre Lodge, 33 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. Instruction at 7:30, dance from 8:00-11:00. Info at www.caldancecoop.org.

And . . . if you've thoroughly enjoyed the vacation from these newsletters and would rather not receive them any longer, just let me know.

Hope to see you around,

Tom
